Florals by Beccadoodle
I recently took the plunge and got my very first lower leg flower tattoo, and I absolutely couldn't be happier with it! If you're on the fence or just looking for some inspiration, let me share a bit about my journey and what I learned along the way. Choosing the perfect spot for a flower tattoo on my lower leg was probably the hardest part. I spent weeks scrolling through Pinterest and Instagram, trying to visualize different designs on my calf, ankle, and even around my shin. Ultimately, I decided on a flowing vine of wildflowers that starts just above my ankle and wraps gently up the side of my calf. I wanted something that would complement the natural curves of my leg, and a vertical design seemed to fit perfectly. When it came to the actual flower designs, I knew I wanted something meaningful. I opted for a mix of lavender for tranquility, poppies for remembrance, and a few delicate daisies just for their simple beauty. My artist was amazing at helping me bring these elements together into a cohesive, organic design that truly felt like 'me.' We discussed whether to go for a vibrant color palette or a more subtle black and grey. I lean towards classic, so we chose fine line blackwork with just a hint of shading to give it depth without being too overwhelming. For a lower leg tattoo, especially if you're thinking about something that will be visible often, considering how bold or subtle you want it to be is key. The pain factor is always a big question mark, right? Honestly, I was bracing myself for the worst, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected! The tattooing process itself felt like a constant scratching sensation, with some areas (like closer to the ankle bone) being a bit more sensitive. But overall, it was totally manageable. I made sure to eat a good meal beforehand, stay hydrated, and bring headphones to distract myself, which really helped. The whole session took about three hours, which flew by surprisingly fast. Aftercare was super important to me to ensure my new floral ink healed beautifully. My artist gave me clear instructions: gentle washing with unscented soap twice a day, patting dry, and then applying a thin layer of specialized tattoo balm. I was also advised to avoid tight clothing and direct sunlight, which was a bit tricky in the summer but totally worth it. The peeling process was a little weird, but knowing it was normal helped ease my mind. Within two weeks, it was looking fantastic, and now, a few months later, it’s settled in perfectly. If you're dreaming of your own lower leg flower tattoo, my biggest advice is to do your research! Find an an artist whose style you love and who specializes in floral or fine line work. Don't be afraid to ask questions during your consultation – it’s your body, after all! Think about the placement, the types of flowers, whether you want color or black and grey, and how it will age. This isn't just a tattoo; it's a piece of art you'll carry with you, so make it truly yours. I'm so glad I went through with it, and I absolutely adore my new floral companion!
