Mic Drop
Hey everyone! I'm so excited to dive deeper into the world of dance, especially after sharing my 'Mic Drop' performance. Many of you have been curious about my journey as Herrin Blackdiamond, a plus-size dancer stepping into the vibrant K-Pop scene, and I'd love to share more about what drives me and how you can find your own rhythm. For a long time, I thought dance wasn't 'for me.' The images I saw in media often didn't reflect my body type, and it was easy to fall into the trap of feeling like I didn't belong. But K-Pop, and especially groups like BTS, ignited a spark in me that I couldn't ignore. Their powerful choreographies, incredible stage presence, and the sheer joy they exude are infectious. I remember watching the 'Mic Drop' performance for the first time and just being blown away by the precision and energy. That's when I thought, 'Why can't I do that?' The journey hasn't been without its challenges, of course. Learning K-Pop choreography is no joke! It requires dedication, countless hours of practice, and breaking down each move frame by frame. There were moments of frustration, moments where my body didn't quite move the way I wanted it to, but every single time I pushed through, the sense of accomplishment was immense. Finding online tutorials, connecting with other K-Pop dance enthusiasts, and simply being patient with myself were key. One of the most important aspects of my dance journey as a plus-size individual has been embracing body positivity. It's about celebrating what your body can do, rather than focusing on what it 'should' look like. Dance has become my way of expressing joy, strength, and confidence. It's a powerful tool for self-love. I want to show that dance is truly for everybody and every body. If you feel the music, if you have a passion to move, then you absolutely can and should dance. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, especially not that voice in your own head. If you're thinking about starting your own dance journey, whether it's K-Pop, hip-hop, or anything else, here's my advice: Just start. Find a style that excites you. Look for beginner-friendly tutorials online – YouTube is a goldmine! Don't be afraid to modify moves to fit your body comfortably. The goal isn't perfection; it's enjoyment and self-expression. Find a supportive community, whether it's online or in person. Most importantly, remember that every step, every wobble, and every triumphant move is part of your unique and beautiful dance story. Keep moving, keep grooving, and let your inner performer, your inner Herrin Blackdiamond, shine!
