Red hair is always my go to!

2024/9/4 Edited to

... Read moreSo many of you have asked about my vibrant red hair, and I'm finally spilling all my secrets! Getting this stunning shade wasn't just a simple dye job; it involved a bit of prep, and for me, a bleach bath was the game-changer. I know the word 'bleach' can be scary, but a bleach bath is a gentler alternative to a full bleach application, especially if your hair isn't super dark or you're just looking to lift a few shades. For my hair, it helped create the perfect canvas for the Adore dye to really pop. First, let's talk about the bleach bath itself. I mix my bleach powder with a 20 volume developer and then add shampoo. This dilutes the mixture, making it less harsh while still effective. I found that applying it evenly and quickly is key. I sectioned my hair, applied the mix from mid-shaft to ends first, then worked my way up to the roots for the last 5-10 minutes. Always keep a close eye on your hair's elasticity and color lift. Once it reached a light orange or yellow-orange, I rinsed thoroughly and conditioned deeply. My goal wasn't to get to platinum, just light enough for the red to shine through. After the bleach bath, my hair was ready for the star of the show: Adore red hair dye! I’m absolutely obsessed with Adore because it's a semi-permanent dye that's conditioning and ammonia-free, which means less damage. There are so many gorgeous red shades; for my vibrant red look, I usually mix a couple of shades, but even a single Adore red like 'Ruby Red' can give amazing results. Applying the Adore dye is pretty straightforward. Make sure your hair is clean and completely dry. I always wear gloves and an old dark top to avoid stains – red dye gets everywhere! I carefully applied the dye evenly from roots to ends, making sure every strand was saturated. Then, I covered my hair with a shower cap and let the dye process. Adore usually recommends 15-30 minutes, but I often leave it on for an hour or even longer because it's so gentle and helps the color last. Once the processing time was up, I rinsed my hair with cool water until it ran clear. Cold water helps to seal the cuticle and lock in the color, which is super important for red hair, as it's notorious for fading quickly. After rinsing, I followed up with a color-safe conditioner. To keep my vibrant red hair looking fresh, I have a few maintenance tips. I wash my hair less frequently, usually every 3-4 days, using only sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners for color-treated hair. Dry shampoo is my best friend between washes! I also use a color-depositing conditioner or mask once a week to refresh the shade. Heat styling is kept to a minimum, and a good heat protectant is a must. Protecting your hair from sun exposure with hats or UV sprays also helps preserve that gorgeous red. And don't forget, keeping your hair healthy from the inside out with good nutrition makes a huge difference in how well your color holds. This entire process, from the gentle bleach bath to the Adore dye, has allowed me to achieve and maintain the red hair of my dreams without compromising my hair's health too much. It takes a little effort, but seeing that stunning, vibrant red every day is absolutely worth it, especially when my long nails complement the look so well!
