How to make your vacuum smell good 🌸💐

The smell is pretty long lasting if you use scent beads, and it gets that burnt dust odor out (if you know what I’m talking about)

So you kind of have to make it a regular thing to clean your vacuum and even wipe out a few of the hair because believe it or not, that hair and dust could lead to a fire starter if you’re not cleaning it out properly.

I also found out using the scent beads makes the room smell good after I vacuum as well

💕 Bonus tip: you can put a little baking powder, baking soda powder in the filter.

... Read moreWe've all been there – you vacuum to make your home fresh, but instead, you get hit with that stale, musty, or even burnt smell. It's so frustrating! I used to think my vacuum was just old, but through trial and error, I've learned some amazing tips to not only make it smell good but keep it that way, truly elevating my #cleangirlaesthetic. First off, let's tackle why our trusty vacuum cleaners start smelling less-than-pleasant. It's usually a combination of trapped dust, pet hair, food particles, and sometimes even mold or mildew if anything damp was accidentally vacuumed. A "dirty filter" is a major culprit, as it traps all sorts of odors over time. That characteristic "burnt dust odor" often comes from fine dust accumulating around the motor or in clogged filters, heating up as the vacuum runs. Understanding the cause is the first step to a fresher home! While scent beads, like those in the "scent booster bottle" I use, are fantastic for an instant refresh, there are other ways to boost freshness and maintain it. I've found that a little baking soda goes a long way. You can sprinkle a tablespoon or two directly into your vacuum's dustbin or bag before you start vacuuming. It's a natural odor absorber and helps neutralize smells as you clean. Another trick I love is adding a few drops of essential oil (lavender or lemon are my favorites!) onto a cotton ball and placing it inside the empty dustbin or even near the filter. Some people also cut small pieces of dryer sheets and put them in the bag or canister for a continuous fresh scent. These alternatives are great for anyone looking to experiment beyond just scented vacuum beads. But the real secret to keeping your "vacuum cleaner" smelling fresh and preventing those "vacuum smells musty" issues is regular, thorough cleaning. It’s more than just emptying the "dustbin attached." Here's my routine: Empty and Clean the Dustbin: Don't just dump out the "debris"; give the "dirty dustbin" a good wipe down with a damp cloth and mild soap. Make sure it's completely dry before reattaching it. I often rinse mine under the tap if it's really grimy! Filter Care is Crucial: As mentioned, a "dirty filter" contributes hugely to bad smells. If your filter is washable, I highly recommend "rinsing it" thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear. It's amazing how much gunk comes out! The most important step here is to let it air dry completely – I mean, 24-48 hours – before putting it back. A damp filter will breed mold and mildew, making your problem worse. If your filter isn't washable, replace it regularly according to your vacuum's instructions. Battle the Brush Roll: For pet owners like me, the "brush roll tangled with hair and debris" is a constant struggle. I regularly use scissors to carefully cut away all the "collected hair" and string wrapped around it. Then, I wipe down the brush roll and the underside of the vacuum with a "rag" dampened with a general-purpose cleaner. This not only improves suction but eliminates trapped odors. Check Hoses and Attachments: Sometimes, odors can get trapped in the hose or various attachments. I occasionally detach them and check for blockages or trapped debris that might be causing a stink. Ever since I started incorporating these deep-cleaning tips along with my favorite scented vacuum beads, my "vacuum cleaner" has stopped smelling "musty", and my home genuinely smells fresher after I vacuum. It’s a game-changer for maintaining a truly clean and inviting living space!

You can take apart the bottom to get the roller out so you can get the hair off too
