I will miss you more
than the limit of language,
for words are shallow vessels
in an ocean of longing.
I write poetry as a passive passion,
of lands I dare not visit,
except in dreams and desires.
For I fear if I were to go there,
I wouldn’t find you.
What if behind the curtain
there was only a mirror…
or worse, nothing?
What if at the end of the rainbow
there was only filth?
And yet,
to be found,
some things bloom in shit and soil.
Still.
For eternity,
you are the lover I carry with me.
Each sunset,
each fire,
each moment of pleasure
is paltry in comparison.
And yet…
you are everything.
And everywhere.
Cheering me on,
championing my calamity.
Oh, how much love you gave,
the grace,
the grit,
the grind.
But the gifts…
they are immeasurable.
I could write for a thousand years,
in a thousand tongues,
and all I’d ever be able to muster is,
“I love you.”
And still…
I could call upon the stars themselves
to descend,
to lay beneath your feet,
to lift you to the heavens.
And still,
I yearn for more.
