I’ve often encountered people asking, "Is your hair fake?" and it can honestly be one of the most irritating questions to receive, especially when it comes out of nowhere. This kind of comment not only questions your natural appearance but can also make anyone feel self-conscious or upset. From my personal experience, the best way to handle it is by remembering that such remarks say more about the asker’s curiosity or ignorance than about you. Sometimes people ask this because they’re genuinely curious or have never seen a certain hair texture or style before. Other times, it might be a rude attempt to start a conversation without considering your feelings. I’ve found that keeping a calm and confident response helps—whether it’s a simple "Yes, it is," or "No, this is natural," or even redirecting the conversation entirely. Additionally, choosing styles that make you feel empowered can reduce the sting of those comments. Wigs, extensions, or natural hairstyles are all beautiful and valid choices. Over the years, embracing my hair journey has helped me build resilience against unsolicited comments. Remember, your worth and beauty aren’t defined by other people’s opinions about your hair.
