Is it time to stop being sad?

Oftentimes, at least personally, I find myself holding onto old emotions and memories. Especially anger and sadness. I find myself wanting to grasp it so tightly that it’s unhealthy.

Maybe I’m scared to stop mourning because I’m scared it’ll show that I don’t love that person enough.

Or maybe I’m scared to let go of the anger I hold towards someone because I’m carrying it as if it’s armor. If that person brings up the conflict again. I can remember every detail and “protect” myself.

But that’s just not healthy. In the moment you should feel those things. Take care of those emotions. Cry, or journal. But once the season has changed, you need to also let it go.

I think with women especially. We like to open up to each other. Tell each other secrets. That’s how we grow closer, but is it healthy to continually reopen those old wounds? To continually mention those secrets.

Because when we talk about it, I do think it’s reopening that cut.

Sometimes there’s a time to talk with friends and help each other, but there’s also a time to refrain.

I strongly recommend forgiving and forgetting. It’s not easy but it helps!

I’ve been holding onto so many grudges, so much sadness and anger. Even some related to abuse. But it only hurts me in the end.

So I’ve decided that when those things come up, I’m going to choose not to dwell on it.

I pray that those that hurt me, realize the wrong in their ways and that they change, I pray that they find good things.

But I’m done holding onto it. I’ve been sad and depressed way too long. And all it does is hurt my relationships.

... Read moreI know how overwhelming it can feel when sadness seems to cling to you, day after day. It’s like being caught in a perpetual cloudy sky, even when the sun is trying to break through. I’ve been there, feeling that heavy weight, sometimes even finding comfort in the familiarity of it. It’s easy to think that holding onto past hurts or anger keeps you safe, or that letting go means you didn't care enough. But I’ve learned that there's a difference between allowing yourself to feel sadness and getting stuck in it. Just like the beautiful artwork that reminds us of life's seasons, there truly is a time for everything. There's a time to grieve, to process, and yes, to feel sadness deeply. When I was going through my toughest times, I found that simply acknowledging, “Okay, I am really sad right now,” was the first step. Journaling helped me pour out those raw emotions without judgment. Sometimes, I’d just cry it out, letting the tears flow, because sometimes that’s exactly what your soul needs. It’s like a cleansing rain, washing over the puddles in your path, as the image suggests. However, after you've felt those emotions, and given them their due, the real work begins: learning to let go. This isn't about forgetting what happened or pretending it didn't hurt; it's about releasing the grip those events have on your present. For me, it meant actively choosing not to rehash old conversations or replay painful memories. It sounds simple, but it’s a conscious effort, especially when you feel like you're not quite yourself anymore, lost in a sea of heartache. I started redirecting my thoughts, sometimes literally saying to myself, “Okay, we’ve felt that, now what’s next?” One thing that truly helped me was focusing on gratitude, even for the smallest things. It felt forced at first, but slowly, it started to shift my perspective. I also realized the importance of who I shared my vulnerabilities with. While opening up is crucial, constantly reopening old wounds with friends can sometimes make it harder to heal. There’s a time to share and support each other, and a time to focus on moving forward individually. Finding healthy distractions, like a new hobby or spending time in nature, also played a part in pulling me out of that persistent sadness. It’s all about taking those tiny steps, one after another, towards a brighter season in your life.

Also, I’d like to add that diagnosed mental illnesses differ from what I stated before. When it comes to mental illnesses it is important to change your way of thinking and your self talk. As well as going to a therapist and possibly getting on medications. I’ve taken a very low dose of an anti depressant and it helped
