Trans Rights Readathon TBR

The Trans Rights Readathon is an event that takes place in the week leading up to the International Trans Day of Visibility (March 31st), during which readers read, review, and uplift books about trans, non-binary, and genderqueer characters and experiences or by trans, nonbinary, and genderqueer authors.

This year I am purposely making my TBR for the week a little extra ambitious, just to test myself and see how many I can get done. Any I don’t finish during the Readathon, which spans the week of March 22-39, will either go back on my TBR for next year’s Readathon or get finished next month if I just can’t wait.

What are your favorite queer books? Did you enjoy any of these? Have any suggestions I should add to my TBR?

(P.S. If you plan to add any of these books to your own TBR, please make sure to check trigger and content warnings! Some of them have very heavy themes.)

... Read moreThe Trans Rights Readathon is a powerful initiative that promotes awareness and understanding of trans, non-binary, and genderqueer experiences through literature. As participants prepare their To-Be-Read (TBR) lists for the event, it's essential to spotlight books that not only feature diverse characters but also resonate with the struggles and triumphs within the LGBTQ+ community. Readers can dive into unforgettable stories such as 'The Final Strife' by Saara El-Arifi, which reimagines fictive narratives with trans representation against a backdrop inspired by African mythology. Additionally, 'Tell Me I'm Worthless' by Alison Rumfitt delivers an engaging horror/ thriller experience with a trans main character, bringing a nuanced view to the genre. For those interested in fantasy, Rin Chupeco's 'The Bone Witch' offers a unique portrayal of a non-binary protagonist surrounded by Filipino cultural elements. Akwaeke Emezi's acclaimed works, including 'Pet' and 'Bitter', challenge the conventions of young adult literature while providing essential visibility for black queer narratives. The horror-fantasy blend in 'Hell Followed With Us' by Andrew Joseph White captures readers with its rich storytelling and trans representation, echoing the importance of authenticity in modern literature. As you curate your TBR list, consider the impactful themes and varied genres that contribute to a broader understanding of gender identity and expression. Share your thoughts and favorites with the community to foster discussion and support for inclusive literature.
