Hawaiian Sweet Roll Recipe - Easy
1/2 cup warm milk
1/2 tsp sugar
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
1/4 cup butter, melted and slightly cooled
1 cup pineapple juice at room temp
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp kosher salt
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
2 eggs slightly whisked at room temp
4 1/2 to 5 cups bread flour - start with 4 1/4 cups
Egg Wash:
1 egg
2 Tbsp water
In a bowl, add warm milk. Sprinkle with sugar and yeast. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes or until bubbly.
To the bowl, add butter, pineapple juice, brown sugar, salt, vanilla, and eggs.
Using a wooden spoon, mix until lightly combined.
Add two cups of flour and mix with a wooden spoon until flour is mixed in but still lumpy.
With a mixer with dough hook attached, begin mixing dough with remaining flour until soft but still slightly sticky dough has formed. Dough will be tacky but shouldn't stick too bad to your fingers. If needed, move to counter and knead a few times with floured hands. This can all be mixed and kneaded by hand, without a mixer as well. It just takes a bit more elbow grease.
Place the dough in a bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and allow to rise for 2 hours or until it’s doubled in size. Punch the dough down and then divide into 15 equal balls. Place each ball in a 9x13 pan. Brush with the egg wash, cover with plastic wrap and allow to rise for another hour or until almost doubled in size.
Remove the plastic wrap and bake in a preheated 350° F oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown and hollow sounding when tapping. Cool and enjoy with your favorite way to use Hawaiian rolls.
