Growing closer to God 🤍✝️
I am trying to do these things every day 🤍 #faith #amen #godisgood #prayer #fyp
It's a beautiful desire to want to grow closer to God, and I've found that sometimes, the journey isn't just about what we add to our lives, but also about what we choose to release. Based on my own experience and what I've learned, there are indeed some things we need to quit to truly make space for a deeper relationship with our Creator. 1. Letting Go of Worry and Anxiety: I used to carry so much worry, constantly replaying scenarios in my head. But as I prayed and read my Bible, I realized God doesn't want us burdened. He asks us to cast our worries onto Him because He cares for us. When I feel that familiar sense of worry creeping in, I try to actively replace it with prayer. Instead of dwelling on "what if," I turn it into a "God, I trust You with this." A verse that truly helps me is Philippians 4:6-7: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." This isn't always easy, but consistently giving my worries to Him has brought incredible peace. 2. Silencing Negative Self-Talk: I can be my own worst critic, and I've learned that speaking negatively over myself is like building a wall between me and God's truth. The Bible tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). When I started to replace those critical thoughts with what God says about me – that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, loved, and purposed – my perspective shifted. It's about actively choosing to speak God's word over my life, even when I don't feel it. This practice helps me see myself through His loving eyes. 3. Releasing the Grip of Fear: Fear can be paralyzing, keeping us from stepping into what God has for us. I've realized that fear often comes from a lack of trust or focusing on circumstances rather than God's power. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). When fear tries to take hold, I remind myself that He is with me wherever I go. Isaiah 41:10 is a powerful reminder: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Trusting in His constant presence helps me walk forward, even when I'm scared. 4. Quitting People-Pleasing: This was a big one for me. I used to make decisions based on what others might think, rather than what I felt God was calling me to do. It's exhausting trying to gain everyone's approval. Learning to focus on pleasing God above all else has been incredibly freeing. When I prioritize His will, I find authenticity and peace that I never found trying to make everyone happy. This journey has taught me that staying true to God's path might mean some people won't understand, but His approval is the only one that truly matters. Beyond quitting these habits, actively growing closer to the Lord also involves cultivating positive practices. Spending consistent time in His Word, even just a few verses each day, helps me understand His character and His heart for me. Prayer isn't just for worries; it's a constant conversation with a loving Father. Finding a supportive faith community also makes a huge difference, as we can encourage and uplift each other on this path. This journey of growing closer to God is a daily, intentional choice, and it's truly the most rewarding path I've ever embarked on.
