Everyone told me apply for scholarships, but no one told me how or where.

I used to think scholarships were only for perfect students I was wrong.

Super easy setup. I applied to scholarships weekly some with no essays at all. I won two here totaling $1,250.

Local Credit Union + Church

Yes! Local orgs usually have fewer applicants. I got $1,000 from a bank that only required a 1-page app.

College Board BigFuture

Just doing things like submitting FAFSA or building a college list entered me to win. I got a $500 award randomly it adds up

Department Scholarships at My School

Many departments don’t advertise their internal scholarships. I emailed and asked got $2,500 from my major’s department

Niche & FastWeb

These send a LOT of emails, but I applied to the ones with less competition. Got $750 from a book scholarship!

Make a simple Google Sheet to track apps

Reuse one essay and tweak it for each prompt

Apply to 2–3 a week even small ones count.

Many students underestimate the opportunities available to them and believe that these financial aids are only for high achievers. In reality, scholarships vary widely and often prioritize different criteria, such as community service, personal essays, or specific demographics. Bold.org, for instance, is highly user-friendly, with numerous no-essay opportunities available. It’s essential to set up alerts and manage applications effectively—using tools like Google Sheets can streamline this process. Local organizations, such as churches and credit unions, often provide lesser-known scholarships with fewer applicants, increasing your chances of obtaining funds. Taking proactive measures like contacting department heads at your college can unveil internal scholarships not widely advertised. Institutions often reward active engagement within departments, so expressing interest can lead to significant awards. Utilizing platforms like College Board's BigFuture can also yield unexpected rewards, as students may be entered into contests simply by fulfilling standard college prep activities such as submitting FAFSA or building their college list. Remember that persistence is key; applying regularly and not reserving applications for senior year can significantly amplify funding opportunities throughout your college journey. In sum, being proactive, organized, and open to various types of scholarships is crucial for success in securing tuition funding.
