Do Men Even Care About Women’s Icks?

We all know what an ick is that little behavior that makes your attraction dip instantly. For me, one of mine is chewing with your mouth open. When I told my boyfriend, he literally laughed and said, That’s dumb.

But here’s my issue: if he had told me his turn-off, I’d take it seriously. So why is it that women’s icks are treated like a joke?

It makes me wonder if men even care about women’s standards in the same way they want theirs respected. are women’s icks valid, or do guys just ignore them? #relationship #girlpov #GirlTalk #datingadviceforgirls #datinglifebelike

... Read moreIt's genuinely frustrating when you voice something that genuinely bothers you, something that can instantly make your attraction dip, and it's met with a laugh or a dismissal. I vividly remember when I mentioned that 'chewing with his mouth open' was a huge ick for me – it’s a small thing, but for some reason, it just gets to me. The immediate reaction of it being brushed off as 'dumb' really stung, and it left me wondering if my feelings were even valid in this relationship. This experience made me reflect on the broader dynamic in relationships. Why does it so often feel like there's a double standard? We're expected to understand and respect a man's boundaries or 'deal-breakers,' yet when it comes to our own, they can be easily trivialized. It's not about being overly sensitive; it's about feeling heard and respected. An 'ick' isn't necessarily a moral failing, but it's a genuine emotional response that impacts how we perceive someone. When someone dismisses it, it can feel like they're dismissing a part of us. Perhaps sometimes men simply don't understand the depth of an 'ick.' What might seem like a minor habit to them could be something that genuinely breaks the illusion or attraction for us. It’s not always about changing someone entirely, but about acknowledging that certain behaviors have an impact. The key, I've realized, lies in communication – not just stating the 'ick,' but explaining why it affects you and how it makes you feel. For example, instead of just saying 'don't chew with your mouth open,' explaining 'When you chew with your mouth open, it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable, and it's hard for me to focus on our conversation' can sometimes land differently. On the flip side, it's also worth acknowledging that men do have their own 'icks' or turn-offs, although they might express them differently. I've heard guys mention things like constant negativity, playing games, or a lack of personal ambition as things that can dim their attraction. It's a two-way street; everyone has their preferences and things that don't sit well with them. The difference often lies in how these concerns are received and respected. A healthy relationship, I believe, is one where both partners feel safe enough to share these vulnerabilities, and where there's mutual effort to understand and, if possible, accommodate each other's boundaries, big or small. It’s about validating each other’s feelings, even if we don't fully understand them ourselves.

A lot of men don't think of women as humans with their own thoughts or feelings. They see women as objects to use, which just dehumanizes women and causes them to not care about our needs and wants. It's all about them and how they can fulfill whatever need there is, but I promise you that there are men out there who respect women and see them as human beings. No one is exempt from misogyny- and life will be a constant struggle on questioning societal narratives/normality. I would tell your boyfriend to reflect and do better or cut my losses already if he can't change or even try to understand you ❤️
