Was ghosting him the right move?

Storytime: I ghosted a guy who was genuinely kind, and it’s been eating at me. He didn’t do anything wrong. I just realized our connection wasn’t right for me. Ghosting felt like the only way to protect my peace, but the guilt lingers.

Have you ever ghosted someone even when you knew they didn’t deserve it? How did you cope with the guilt?

... Read moreIt's so tough when you have that gut feeling that something isn't right, even with someone who is genuinely kind. I totally get wanting to protect your peace and feeling like ghosting is the only way out. The lingering guilt is a real sign of your empathy, and it shows you're reflecting on your actions, which is a good thing. Many of us have been in situations where we've considered or even resorted to ghosting, whether it’s in a casual dating scenario, a situationship, or even with a friend. Sometimes, the difficulty of walking away and setting boundaries can feel overwhelming. We might ghost because we fear confrontation, don't know how to articulate our feelings, or are simply trying to protect our own mental health. When you're struggling yourself, sometimes it feels easier to just disappear rather than having a difficult conversation. However, while ghosting might offer immediate relief, it often leaves both parties feeling unsettled. For the person being ghosted, it can be incredibly confusing and painful, leaving them wondering what went wrong and making it harder for them to move on after ghosting. For the ghoster, like you, it can lead to that heavy feeling of guilt and regret, even when you know you made the right decision for yourself. So, what are some alternatives, or how can we navigate these tricky situations with more grace? While a direct, in-person breakup isn't always feasible or safe, a clear, kind, and concise message – even a 'ghosting texting conversation' that simply states you're not feeling a connection and wish them well – can provide closure without a long, drawn-out explanation. Setting boundaries is key here; it’s about communicating your needs without having to justify them excessively. You can prioritize your peace without completely abandoning communication. Coping with the guilt involves acknowledging your feelings and understanding that you did what you felt was best at the time. It doesn't mean you're a bad person; it means you're human. Focus on learning from the experience, perhaps thinking about how you might handle a similar situation differently next time. Ultimately, protecting yourself and your well-being is important, and recognizing that gut feeling is a powerful tool for self-preservation. It's a journey, and giving yourself grace is part of it.

You are totally valid for feeling the way you do, but ghosting is harsh especially if they didn’t do anything to deserve it. Why not just communicate how you feel rather than ghost. Try putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and move accordingly.
