One practical tip that helped me immensely was moving all logistical discussions—like scheduling or money matters—to email. This simple step created a clear boundary between emotional conversations and transactional ones, making it easier to separate feelings from unfinished business. Also, muting notifications and archiving chats removed the temptation of constantly replaying messages in my mind. It wasn’t about ignoring or being cold; it was about protecting my emotional space. Another important insight is that a message or a sudden comeback from someone doesn’t necessarily mean progress or change. I had to remind myself that contact isn’t effort and explanations don’t always signal consistency. Viewing every interaction this way prevented me from falling into the trap of reopening conversations based on hope rather than reality. Breaking the cycle involves reflecting on what triggers you to go back. For me, it was the fear of missing out or unanswered questions. Over time, practicing detachment and focusing on my own well-being replaced those urges. If you find yourself stuck in this pattern, try setting boundaries on your communication channels and treat emotional disengagement as an act of self-care, not defeat. It’s a gradual shift but one that can truly change how you experience relationships and your own emotional health.
