Fresh Cabbage, Bold Flavors, One Delicious Skillet!
Have you seen the viral dirty cabbage recipe all over social media? I had to put this one on my list! It’s a delicious, savory cabbage dish loaded with seasoned meat and Southern-inspired flavors. If you love cabbage but want to switch things up from traditional fried cabbage, this is one to try.
Ingredients
1 head of green cabbage
Ground beef
Smoked sausage
Onion
Bell pepper
Garlic
Beef broth
Worcestershire sauce
Cajun seasoning
Smoked paprika
Black pepper
Olive oil
How to Make It
1. Wash and chop your cabbage into bite-sized pieces.
2. In a large skillet, brown your ground beef until fully cooked. Drain excess grease if needed.
3. Add your sliced smoked sausage and cook until lightly browned.
4. Add your chopped onions, bell peppers, and garlic. Cook until softened.
5. Season everything with Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and black pepper.
6. Add the chopped cabbage and stir everything together.
7. Pour in a little beef broth and Worcestershire sauce to help the cabbage cook and absorb all those flavors.
8. Cover and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender but not completely mushy.
9. Taste and adjust your seasonings before serving!
What makes dirty cabbage so appealing is that it turns an everyday vegetable into a hearty, flavorful meal. The cabbage cooks down and soaks up the savory juices from the beef, sausage, vegetables, and seasonings. You get different textures in every bite, from the tender cabbage to the browned meat and smoky sausage.
It’s also a great way to make a filling meal without needing rice or pasta. You can enjoy it as a main dish or serve it alongside your favorite Southern sides.
