Scripture/Prayer

God is close to those who are suffering and will help them through their pain:

God understands: God is aware of our feelings, even if we haven't spoken them out loud.

God provides comfort: God offers peace that surpasses all understanding and reminds us of his promises.

God offers deliverance: God can help us find a way out of difficult situations.

God provides unconditional love: God's love is always there, even when human love has left us.

God invites us to approach him: God wants us to come to him in humility and seek his restoration.

Psalm 34:18 is a reminder that God is always there for us, even in our darkest moments.

Be Blessed 🙏🏾🙏🏾

... Read moreI remember a time when I felt completely lost, burdened by anxieties that seemed impossible to shake off. It was during that period that Psalm 34:18 KJV became my anchor. The words, 'The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit,' resonated so deeply within me. Before truly understanding it, I often wondered what it meant to have a 'broken heart' or a 'contrite spirit.' Through my own journey, I've come to realize it's not about being literally shattered, but rather a state of humility and openness before God when we're hurting, acknowledging our need for His presence and intervention. It's when we're at our lowest, feeling the weight of the world, that God feels closest. The original article beautifully touches on how God understands our unspoken feelings and provides a peace that surpasses all understanding. For me, this peace wasn't an instant fix, but a gradual realization that even when everything else felt chaotic, His love was a constant. I found myself drawn to moments of quiet reflection, sometimes just repeating the verse, letting its truth sink in. It’s like a warm embrace when you feel utterly alone. This divine comfort is not about removing the problem immediately, but about strengthening us within the problem, giving us the resilience to face it. It taught me the importance of simply sitting with my feelings and inviting God into them, rather than trying to push them away. And what about deliverance? It's not always a dramatic escape from a situation, but often the strength to endure, or the wisdom to navigate a difficult path. The thought of God offering unconditional love, even when human relationships falter, has been incredibly empowering. This verse truly highlights His steadfastness. The image of the 'Draw Close to Me' prayer from the image really captures this essence. It's a yearning to shed those burdens, fears, and heaviness, inviting His relentless love to fill those empty spaces. I started incorporating a similar sentiment into my own daily prayers, asking Him specifically to lift the specific anxieties weighing me down and to replace them with His peace. It's a continuous process of leaning into Him. Embracing a 'contrite spirit' means acknowledging our limitations, our mistakes, and our need for grace. It's a posture of humility that opens the door for God's healing. When my heart felt broken, I learned that it wasn't a sign of weakness, but an opportunity for God to mend and strengthen it in ways I couldn't imagine. He takes our fragile pieces and weaves them into something stronger, more beautiful, and more resilient. The KJV's poetic language, 'The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; And saveth such as be of a contrite spirit,' makes this truth so profound and memorable. It reminds us that our brokenness isn't a barrier to God, but an invitation for Him to draw closer. This wasn't just a theological concept for me; it was a deeply personal encounter with grace. Beyond just reading the verse, I found that actively seeking Him — whether through quiet meditation, journaling my feelings, or even just sitting in nature and talking to Him — deepened my connection. The prayer from the image, asking for burdens, fears, and heaviness to be replaced with His relentless love, became a blueprint for my own conversations with God. It’s a powerful testament to the fact that we don’t have to carry our pain alone. He invites us to approach Him, not because we are perfect, but because we are hurting, and He desires our restoration. So, if you're searching for solace, if you feel a broken heart, or if your spirit is contrite, turn to Psalm 34:18. It's more than just a verse; it's a promise. It’s an invitation to experience God's understanding, comfort, deliverance, and boundless love. My hope is that, just as it did for me, this scripture brings you incredible peace and reminds you that you are never truly alone in your struggles. God is always, always near.
