Today surprised me. I fasted until 8 PM, not because I was trying to prove anything, but because I genuinely didn’t know what to eat. I almost went to bed without eating, but I paused because it felt ambitious.
The Lord brought me to Book of James, where we’re reminded that selfish ambition leads to disorder. That word disorder stopped me. I didn’t want to stumble by turning discipline into pride thinking I got this or I can take advantage and shed extra weight.
So on today’s live, we talked about how pride shows up in our health journeys, how yo-yo dieting is often driven by comparison, jealousy, and chasing an image instead of wisdom and end up stumbling, Proverbs 16:18.

I’ve learned God doesn’t let me fast just to change my weight or only my plate anymore. There has to be more, there has to be purpose so that I can prosper in every way, be in good health as my soul prospers…
The interesting thing is that when we do that, it often results in weight loss.
This was my day today! 🤷🏻♀️
How was yours? 🤔
If food dominates your thoughts or replaces God as your comfort, no shame. I’ve been there. We have resources to support you, linked in our bio, if you’re ready.

During my own health journey, I realized that true transformation comes not just from controlling what we eat but from shifting our mindset and aligning our purpose with something greater than ourselves. Like the experience described, fasting or dieting often starts with a goal to change our physical appearance, but it can quickly become a source of pride or frustration when results don’t meet expectations. I found that grounding my journey in spiritual principles, such as those highlighted in the Book of James and Proverbs, helped me identify moments where pride crept in and disrupted my progress. What really helped me was seeing fasting as a way to foster discipline rooted in humility rather than self-glorification. It became less about shedding pounds and more about cultivating wisdom and gratefulness. By letting go of comparison with others and recognizing that my worth is not defined by the scale, I discovered a more sustainable and fulfilling path to health. Equally important was addressing emotional eating and the role that comfort food can play when we neglect our deeper needs. Like many, I experienced times when food filled a void that only faith or inner peace could satisfy. Reaching out for support—whether through community resources, spiritual encouragement, or mindful eating practices—made a big difference in overcoming those struggles. Incorporating scripture and reflection into my health routine gave me a new framework to understand setbacks as part of growth, not failure. For anyone feeling overwhelmed or stuck, I encourage exploring how faith and intention can restore balance, providing strength to persevere without stumbling over pride or unrealistic expectations. Ultimately, caring for our bodies in alignment with our souls can lead to prosperity in all areas of life, including physical health and emotional wellbeing.
