Penang buffet $29.90… worth it or hype? 👀

Went to Penang Culture and didn’t expect it to be this good. It’s an all-day buffet but not the usual “food sit there get cold” kind. You order and everything comes freshly cooked, some still bubbling when it lands on your table 🔥

They’re doing a claypot theme now so a lot of dishes come hot hot one — perfect if you’re the kind that hates lukewarm food.

Here’s what stood out for us:

🍛 Curry Chicken → legit one of the better dishes, thick + fragrant, very comforting

🍲 Nonya Chap Chye → soft, flavourful, rare to find a good one outside

🦪 Stir Fried Clams → don’t judge by looks, the broth damn addictive

🥧 Kueh Pie Tee → DIY so you can spam fillings how you like

🍗 Herbal Chicken Soup → quite strong herbal taste (you’ll either love or avoid 😂)

🦐 Salted Egg Mantis Prawn → crispy + flavour hits immediately

Also tried some more unique ones like white kopi chicken (sounds weird but actually works??) and fish skin rojak which stayed crispy longer than expected.

Dessert wise… if you’re a durian fan, just go straight for it. No need think.

The cendol + bubur hitam both come with a slab of durian on top 😮‍💨

There’s also a DIY dessert corner with fondue, biscuits, marshmallows — lowkey feels like a mini throwback snack station.

For $29.90, I’d say it’s quite worth it if:

✔️ you like variety

✔️ you prefer food cooked fresh

✔️ you don’t mind trying new combos

Honestly, we’ll be back for more! Wish they had more outlets around SG! 🍲🥘🦐

... Read moreIf you're curious about the claypot buffet experience beyond the main highlights, here’s more from my visit that might help you decide! What really impressed me was how each dish arrived piping hot—no more cold, forgotten food typical of many buffets. The claypot theme really elevates the flavor and keeps everything fresh. For example, the Herbal Chicken Soup, with its strong herbal notes, might not be for everyone but offers a unique taste adventure worth trying if you enjoy bold flavors. Another standout was the fish skin rojak, which stayed crispy much longer than I expected, providing a great textural contrast to the other dishes. Plus, the variety extends beyond mains with a DIY dessert station featuring fondue, marshmallows, and biscuits—you can create your own sweet treats, which is fun and nostalgic. If you’re a durian fan, this place is a must-visit. The cendol and bubur hitam desserts are topped generously with durian, giving an authentic local touch that durian lovers will appreciate. Location-wise, Penang Culture at Compass One is easy to reach, making it a convenient spot to enjoy a leisurely meal with friends or family. At $29.90, I find it excellent value for the variety, freshness, and quality served continuously throughout the day. If you enjoy trying new flavors and prefer freshly cooked food served hot, this claypot buffet delivers well on its promise. I hope this gives you a fuller picture—I’ll certainly be returning to explore more dishes and take friends along next time!
