Help putting together my October reads

Ok I need some help, I read from 8 to 10 books a month I am planning my October Horror TBR. I have 3 planned I'm going to Finish the Indian Lake Series. Then Re-read The Shinning and Go right into Dr. Sleep... So I need another say 6 recommendations. Now I have King so no more King Please. Also, I do not like anything with dolls. Ok... lets see what we get. ILL put together my October Horror list once it's finalized.

... Read moreIf you are curating a horror reading list for October and want to avoid Stephen King books, as well as any horror involving dolls, there are many excellent alternatives across various sub-genres to explore. Psychological horror and supernatural thrillers can deliver the scares without relying on traditional doll motifs or King’s works. Some acclaimed horror authors providing diverse options include Shirley Jackson, known for her unsettling and deeply psychological style, which could complement your Indian Lake series finale and Stephen King re-reads. Books like "We Have Always Lived in the Castle" or "The Haunting of Hill House" by Jackson offer exquisite tension and eerie atmospheres. Additionally, authors such as Paul Tremblay, Josh Malerman, and Alma Katsu have received praise for fresh and innovative horror novels. For example, Paul Tremblay’s "The Cabin at the End of the World" delivers intense suspense without supernatural dolls, fitting your preferences. Josh Malerman’s "Bird Box" also offers a thrilling psychological twist. Expanding your list with international horror authors may bring unique cultural perspectives and fresh scares. Japanese horror, such as works by Koji Suzuki (writer of "Ring"), or Latin American horror by Mariana Enriquez, provide chilling tales that diverge from mainstream horror tropes. To enhance your October TBR, consider exploring these themes and authors: - Haunted houses and eerie small towns - Cosmic horror or Lovecraftian influences without overused clichés - Psychological horror exploring human fears and paranoia Additionally, specialized horror reading communities and online book groups can provide personalized recommendations tailored to your criteria. Websites like Goodreads horror groups often have curated lists excluding Stephen King and doll-related themes, offering curated and trusted suggestions. Ultimately, building a balanced horror reading list with a variety of scares, from the supernatural to psychological, will keep the October reading experience fresh and exciting. Leveraging diverse authors and sub-genres ensures a high-quality, engaging, and unique horror TBR for the month.
