w the tags still on a lot of them too 😭 stop buying polyester clothes
I recently learned that washing polyester clothes releases harmful microplastics into the water system, which can eventually end up in the water we drink. This was quite shocking because polyester is so common—around 92% of clothes contain it. It made me rethink my wardrobe choices entirely. Switching to natural fibers like cotton, linen, or wool can significantly reduce microplastic pollution. I've started buying second-hand or clothes labeled 100% natural fibers, even if that means paying a bit more or shopping less frequently. It feels good to know I'm contributing less to plastic pollution. Additionally, there are laundry bags designed to catch microfibers during washing, like the Guppyfriend bag, which can help minimize microplastic release if you still have polyester clothes. But ultimately, the best approach is reducing polyester purchases altogether. Many companies continue manufacturing polyester clothes due to cost and durability, but as consumers, we have the power to drive change by choosing sustainable options. I encourage everyone to check their clothing labels and prioritize natural fabrics to help protect our environment and our health from microplastic contamination.
