Traveling through France in the summer offers an unparalleled combination of history, culture, and breathtaking sights. One key insight from my recent trip is how physically demanding exploring the landmarks can be, especially with the abundance of stairs at places like Montmartre’s Basilique du Sacré-Cœur and the Arc de Triomphe. Wearing comfortable shoes truly made a world of difference, as I averaged around 30,000 steps each day. It’s worth it though, as each climb rewards you with stunning panoramic views and unforgettable experiences. Starting your journey in Rennes is a great choice. This charming city boasts beautiful architecture and a relaxed atmosphere that contrasts nicely with the busier tourist hubs later in the trip. Heading to Normandy to marvel at Mont St. Michel was a highlight - the island abbey's medieval charm makes it truly magnificent. If you schedule your visit to catch the tide changes, it feels like stepping into another world. Visiting the Palace of Versailles reveals the opulence of French royalty. Don’t rush; take your time to wander through the gardens and the hall of mirrors. Then, a visit to Paris offers endless attractions: the Louvre’s incredible art collection, a romantic Seine river cruise at sunset, and iconic sites like the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame Cathedral. One tip is to plan your day to avoid peak times, especially at popular spots like the Eiffel Tower. Going to the very top is an absolute must—views of Paris from above are unforgettable. Similarly, the Arc de Triomphe’s rooftop, though involving many stairs, is well worth the effort for breathtaking cityscapes. Concluding the trip with Montmartre and the Palais Garnier adds an artistic and cultural layer to the tour. Montmartre’s winding streets and vibrant atmosphere offer a bohemian feel, while the Palais Garnier showcases opulent architecture and history. Overall, this 6-day itinerary blends well-known and offbeat locations, immersing travelers in French culture, history, and stunning scenery. If you prepare for lots of walking and stair climbing while dressing comfortably, your summer France trip will be truly memorable.
