My Journey as A Creative Entrepreneur

“I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.”

— Robert Frost

In 1697, the term “Creative Entrepreneur” was used to define a means of advancing industry through ingenuity and creativity, and those participating in the field were known as inventors. However, in 1796, the term took on a new meaning when it was used to refer to creative capitalists.

“If you want to make money and be happy, you will do the following: have a career and a passion. Your career pays your bills, so make sure it’s something you can see yourself doing every day without running you up a wall. Your passion brings you the utmost joy, and you’d do it every day of your life without pay.”

This was the summation of the advice I was given by my teachers and mentors during the later years of my high school career. Though it is sound advice that I’ve passed on to my children, I’ve found myself pivoting in following the path of the creative entrepreneur.

Though I did not have a name for it then, I believe the urge to become a successful creative capitalist has always been my calling from blogging, affiliate marketing, sales, and self-publishing. I have always found myself thriving in fields where the entrepreneurial spirit was the defining factor for success.

Ever since grade school, whenever my teachers would ask, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Instead of saying, a doctor, firefighter, or engineer. I would boldly say...

... Read moreThat Robert Frost quote about taking the road less traveled truly resonates with me. My creative entrepreneur journey has been exactly that – a path filled with unique challenges and incredible rewards that I never fully anticipated. When I first dove into what it means to be a 'creative entrepreneur,' I imagined a clear-cut path to innovation. But the reality is far more an adventure into the unknown. Embarking on this journey often feels chaotic. There’s no predefined map, and you’re constantly navigating uncharted territory. I remember days feeling completely overwhelmed, questioning every decision, especially when contrasting it with the perceived stability of 'safer' career options. Yet, within that very chaos, I discovered an unexpected wellspring of joy. Each problem I solved, every small breakthrough, felt like a monumental achievement. This constant cycle of learning and overcoming obstacles has created a growth curve steeper and more fulfilling than any traditional job could offer. My mentors always emphasized the 'career for bills, passion for joy' formula. While it's sound advice, I found myself applying it and still feeling stuck, lacking that deep sense of purpose. My 'safe' careers, despite their stability, lacked the spark, the sustainable energy that comes from true passion. This often led to repeated resets, a feeling of exhaustion from chasing paths that simply weren't aligned with my deepest aspirations. It became clear that my childhood dream – to build a legacy akin to Walt Disney’s – hadn't faded; it had merely evolved, refusing to be confined by conventional expectations. It took me some time to connect the dots. The countless late nights blogging, the experiments with affiliate marketing, and the immense satisfaction I found in self-publishing my thoughts weren't just hobbies. They were the nascent stages of my creative empire, foundational blocks for something much grander. I was already on this creative entrepreneurship journey, unknowingly assembling the pieces of my calling, discovering that my entrepreneurial spirit thrived most when I was sharing, creating, and connecting with others. There often comes a pivotal moment, doesn't there, when you realize a significant change is inevitable? For me, it was a profound conversation, a moment of stark realization that life was too precious to not pursue what truly ignited my spirit. It wasn't about being fearless, but about mustering the courage and self-belief to acknowledge that those 'safe' careers were draining my vitality rather than sustaining it. That pivotal insight gave me the necessary push to fully commit to my creative hustle, to build something that would not only fulfill me but also inspire and provide value to others. If you're feeling that magnetic pull towards forging your own creative path, understand that while it's challenging, it is profoundly rewarding. It's about embracing the unknown, continuously learning, and ultimately, finding your unique way to build a legacy that authentically reflects your passion.
