I used to be fun…. Now I’m just overstimulated #sahm
Transitioning from an active, fun lifestyle to being a stay-at-home mom can feel overwhelming and highly overstimulating, as many mothers can relate to. The daily grind of childcare, managing household duties, and the lack of adult interaction contribute heavily to this feeling. In my own experience, initially, the excitement of focusing solely on my children seemed like a dream come true, but over time, the constant demands left me emotionally and physically drained. When my husband jokingly said that he turned me from a 'hoe ass' into a SAHM, it struck a chord about how drastically our roles and identities can change after parenthood. While there's immense joy in watching your children grow, the mental load can be exhausting without adequate support or personal time. Many mothers find that overstimulation arises from continuous multitasking without breaks, limited social engagement, and the pressure to be perfect at home. It helped me to acknowledge these feelings rather than suppress them. Connecting with other SAHMs, engaging in small daily self-care routines, and setting realistic expectations are vital strategies to combat overstimulation. Remember, embracing your new role does not mean losing your individuality or fun; it's about finding a balance that works for you and your family. Sharing our stories and challenges helps create a supportive community where every mom feels seen and validated.
