Making Peace With My Pace

Saturday nights gently expose how often I rush myself, measuring progress by speed instead of depth, forgetting that “to every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, KJV). When I sit with that truth, I begin to see that my pace is not random or careless it is purposeful. God is not hurried with my growth, and He is not asking me to be anywhere other than where I am right now. What feels slow to me may simply be the right season for rooting, for strengthening, for quiet work beneath the surface that cannot be rushed without being damaged.

I notice how often I criticize myself for not moving faster, for not producing more, for not arriving sooner. Yet honoring my pace invites a different kind of faith one that trusts God’s timing more than my anxiety. My process is sacred because it is guided, not forced. Alignment matters more than acceleration, and when I accept that, my breathing slows and my spirit settles. I begin to understand that rest is not a pause in becoming; it is part of it. Becoming takes time because wholeness requires care.

When I stop comparing timelines, I gain clarity. I realize how much energy I lose to self-judgment and how much peace returns when I release it. If I honored my pace instead of criticizing it, I would move with greater honesty, greater presence, and deeper trust. I would allow God to complete His work in me without interference. And tonight, that is enough to rest in my season, knowing it is purposeful, held, and unfolding exactly as it should.

... Read moreIn today’s fast-paced world, it’s all too common to equate speed with success and productivity. I used to catch myself measuring progress solely by how quickly I could accomplish tasks or reach milestones, often feeling anxious or inadequate when things didn’t happen fast enough. But through personal reflection and spiritual insight, I’ve learned that embracing my own pace is transformative for both my mental health and my spiritual growth. One practice that helped me immensely was reminding myself regularly of the verse from Ecclesiastes 3:1: “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” This simple yet profound reminder helped me see that my growth, just like the changing seasons, unfolds in its own perfect timing. Instead of rushing through difficult or quiet phases, I learned to see them as times of deep root-building and foundation-strengthening, which are essential but often invisible phases. I also found that honoring my pace invited a new kind of faith—one that trusts not in my hurried efforts but in a higher timing. Instead of forcing progress or accelerating just to keep up, I embraced alignment over speed. This shift brought a surprising calmness and allowed my spirit to settle amidst uncertainty. Rest became less a sign of delay and more an active part of my becoming. This counterintuitive approach—viewing rest as sacred and necessary—helped me realize that well-being and wholeness require patience and care. When I stopped comparing my timeline to others and released self-judgment, I reclaimed a significant amount of peace and energy. By honoring my unique pace, I could move through life with greater honesty and presence. I became more attuned to what my heart truly needed rather than what external pressures demanded. This experience deepened my trust that the process I am on is sacred and guided, and that the work of growth is precisely being nurtured beneath the surface. For anyone feeling overwhelmed by their progress or anxious about their timeline, embracing your local season of growth and resting in your pace might just be the most liberating practice you can cultivate.
