Therapist OOTD rule #1

If I can't sit in it for 8 sessions straight, it's not making the rotation. 😂

I've realized that half of being a therapist is holding space for others, and the other half is finding pants that don't make you question your life choices by session three.

Comfort. Confidence. Compassion. In that order.

... Read moreAs a therapist, I’ve come to truly appreciate the importance of an outfit that holds up through countless back-to-back sessions. Something that looks professional but also offers flexibility and comfort is absolutely essential. From my experience, the key to choosing the right therapist outfit starts with understanding that comfort is not a luxury, but a necessity. Wearing tight or restrictive pants can really distract you by session three, making it hard to stay fully present with your clients. I always opt for wide-legged or relaxed-fit bottoms, which allow freedom of movement whether I'm sitting, walking, or shifting positions during sessions. The breathable fabrics and strategic layering help me maintain a consistent temperature in often unpredictable office environments. Keeping a clean, stylish pair of sneakers that are both cute and comfortable is another game-changer, especially since therapists walk a lot during the day. Hairstyles have to be practical too; I’ve found that low-maintenance styles like easy professional layers not only save time but also help me project confidence and readiness without the stress of daily blowouts. Additionally, having room in my outfit for essential items like lip gloss, tissues, and snacks ensures I am prepared for anything the day throws at me. Most importantly, dressing with compassion toward myself—choosing what helps me feel confident and comfortable—allows me to better hold space for my clients. When your outfit supports you instead of distracting you, it enhances your ability to be present, patient, and attentive. This blend of comfort, confidence, and compassion really defines what I consider the ultimate therapist OOTD rule #1.

Things that actually help with AuDHD burnout (from an AuDHD therapist)
AuDHD burnout isn’t just being tired. It’s a full-system depletion that affects energy, emotions, sensory tolerance, and executive functioning all at once. And for many women, it builds slowly over months of pushing through, masking, and managing more than your nervous system was designed to hold.
