My Favorite Ark Base Locales

Okay, fellow ARK enthusiasts, let's talk bases! There's nothing quite like finding that perfect spot, right? The one where you can truly thrive, gather resources, and feel safe from all those pesky wild creatures. I've spent countless hours exploring, and I'm thrilled to share some of my absolute favorite PVE base locations across different maps, especially on The Island, Ragnarok, and Valguero. These are the spots I keep coming back to! The Island: My Top Picks for a Safe Start and Beyond For anyone starting on The Island, or even seasoned players looking for a relaxed PVE build, I always recommend a few places: The Hidden Lake (Lat: 68.3, Lon: 56.1): This place is pure magic, especially for beginners! It's a large, tranquil lake surrounded by cliffs, with only a few narrow entrances. This makes it incredibly easy to defend against wild dino spawns. You've got immediate access to water, plenty of trees for wood, and stone. Plus, metal nodes aren't too far away if you venture just outside the lake. It's a fantastic spot to get established, tame some early-game dinos, and feel relatively safe from aggressive predators. Western Coast - South of the Red Obelisk (Lat: 75.0, Lon: 20.0): This area offers a great balance of resources and defensibility. It's relatively flat, providing ample building space, and you’re close to the ocean for taming water creatures or gathering silica pearls. There are also decent metal and crystal spawns in the nearby mountains. It’s also fairly close to the Red Obelisk, making it convenient for boss fights or moving between maps later on. Just be mindful of the occasional carnivore patrols! Ragnarok: Resource Heaven and Scenic Views Ragnarok is one of my favorite maps for its diverse biomes and rich resources. Here are a couple of spots I adore: Viking Bay (Lat: 20.0, Lon: 20.0 to Lat: 30.0, Lon: 30.0): This entire bay area is just fantastic. You get a mix of beach and forest, with plenty of flat ground to build on. Water access is a given, and there are metal nodes scattered throughout the surrounding cliffs. It’s also relatively safe, especially the northern parts of the bay. I love building a tiered base here, overlooking the ocean. Plus, it's not too far from some of the map's more dangerous areas if you're looking for a challenge, but far enough for comfortable PVE. Highlands (Lat: 40.0, Lon: 60.0): If you're looking for vast, open spaces with incredible views and tons of metal, the Highlands are for you. It’s a bit more exposed, so you'll need to think about defenses, but the sheer amount of buildable land and metal resources makes it worth it. It’s a bit of a trek for water, but you can always set up irrigation. This is where I go when I want to build a truly massive, sprawling base. Valguero: Unique Biomes and Strategic Spots Valguero is a visually stunning map with some really unique features. My go-to PVE spots here are: Chalk Hills (Lat: 70.0, Lon: 40.0): This area is fantastic because it's relatively flat and open, perfect for large bases. The chalk cliffs provide natural defenses, and there’s a good amount of metal and stone. It’s also fairly central, giving you good access to other biomes. Just be aware of the occasional Giganotosaurus that can wander into the area, so good perimeter defenses are a must! The White Cliffs (Lat: 40.0, Lon: 80.0): While a little more challenging due to proximity to the snow biome, the White Cliffs offer an incredible amount of metal, crystal, and obsidian. The views are breathtaking, and many areas provide natural chokepoints that can be fortified. It’s a great spot for a more advanced player who wants to be close to high-end resources. Just bring plenty of warm clothes and be ready for some aggressive creatures! General Tips for Choosing Your Perfect PVE Base Location: No matter which map you're on, always consider these factors: Resource Access: Do you have wood, stone, metal, crystal, and water nearby? This will save you so much time! Defensibility: Can you easily wall off or create chokepoints? Are there natural barriers like cliffs or rivers? Flat Space: Is there enough room for all your structures, pens, and future expansions? Dino Spawns: What aggressive dinos typically spawn in the area? Can you handle them, or will they be a constant threat? Proximity to Important Locations: Are you near obelisks, caves, or unique biomes you want to explore?
