📍Paris in the Winter

I visited Paris last winter and there was a lot to explore that you wouldn’t expect so here are my notes:

🛍️Thrifting: I loovveeee thrifting outfits and Paris is a really great place to find unique thrift shops. I went to 📍Kilo Shop and it was interesting because you pay by the weight (kilo) of the clothing and not necessarily individual set prices. I got some great finds so I would definitely recommend.

🎶Dinner at the Opera: I ate dinner at a restaurant called 📍Coco, which was at the Opera. You have to make reservations and I got super lucky in getting a same day reservation, but you should definitely book in advance, before you leave for your trip.

☕️The Most Beautiful Starbucks: I am currently boycotting Starbucks and haven’t been in over 4 months, but if you want to see the coffee shop it is the most extravagantly royal Starbucks I have ever seen. (Maybe don’t buy anything if you decide to visit).

Save this for a wintry, holiday visit to Paris!

... Read moreParis in winter holds a special charm, transforming into a cozy haven where every street corner seems to whisper tales of romance and history. When the chill sets in, there's nothing quite like stepping into a warm, inviting Parisian bistro. Forget the crowded summer terraces; winter is when these local gems truly shine, offering hearty comfort food and an authentic glimpse into Parisian life that you won't experience any other time of year. For me, the perfect winter bistro has dim lighting, worn wooden tables, and the comforting clatter of cutlery. It's a place where you can escape the cold and indulge in classic French dishes that are designed to warm you from the inside out. I always look for a place with a blackboard menu, suggesting seasonal specialties and daily creations – it’s a good sign of fresh, authentic cooking, often a family-run affair. You absolutely must try French onion soup – it's a winter staple, perfectly cheesy, rich, and wonderfully warming, served bubbling hot. Other cold-weather favorites include Boeuf Bourguignon, a rich beef stew slow-cooked in red wine, or if you're feeling adventurous, seek out places offering Raclette or Fondue, perfect for sharing with friends on a chilly evening. These dishes aren't just meals; they're experiences that immerse you in French culinary tradition. While the original article highlights the grand Coco at the Opera for a special, more upscale dining experience, for that classic, everyday Parisian feel, I love wandering through neighborhoods like Le Marais or the Latin Quarter. These areas are brimming with charming, unpretentious bistros. Keep an eye out for places bustling with locals rather than just tourists – that's usually a good indicator of quality and authenticity. Sometimes, even what looks like a simple 'Cafe' from the street, like the one I noticed in the OCR images, can hide a fantastic, unpretentious bistro experience inside, especially if they have an inviting 'indoor seating' option for warmth. I remember one blustery Parisian evening, after browsing for unique finds at a thrift store similar to Kilo Shop, I stumbled upon a tiny, unassuming bistro. The warmth hit me the moment I walked in, and the aroma of simmering stew was intoxicating. I ordered a glass of robust red wine and their daily special, a Coq au Vin, and it was pure bliss – simple, hearty, and utterly French. It made my winter trip feel incredibly authentic and truly unforgettable. My top tip for finding these hidden gems? Don't be afraid to wander off the main avenues and explore smaller side streets. While checking reviews can be helpful, sometimes the best finds are the unexpected ones you discover by chance. Just peek inside and see if the atmosphere feels right to you. Some popular bistros might require a reservation, especially on weekends, but many smaller ones welcome walk-ins. Just remember, these spots are about lingering and savoring the moment, away from the rush of sightseeing. So, while you're planning your winter in Paris, definitely save those unique shopping spots and grand dining experiences, but also carve out time to discover the magic of a Parisian bistro. It’s truly a cornerstone of the winter Parisian charm and will leave you with delicious memories.
