Spots in Miami with retro vibes

Do you love retro vibes? Visit these spots on your next Miami trip!

Eden Roc Miami Beach

This famous MiMo (Miami Modern) style hotel has seen many famous faces since opening in 1956, including Lucille Ball (and Desi too) among other famous names like Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, Sammy Davis Jr., Harry Belafonte, Nat King Cole, and Barbara Streisand! There’s a mid-century charm to the place and it feels retro!

Miami Beach Lifeguard Towers

The colorful lifeguard towers that dot Miami Beach are designed to have a retro feel as they are Art Deco and Mid Century Modern styles with fun tropical colors!

Ocean Dr

Located in the South Beach neighborhood, this is the heart of the Art Deco District and almost all the buildings look retro as they are preserved Art Deco beauties in beautiful pastel and tropical colors! My favorite retro spots also include the Avalon Hotel Miami and The Colony Hotel since they have old school cars sitting out front!

Miami
2025/1/24 Edited to

... Read moreOh my goodness, if you're like me and absolutely adore stepping back in time, Miami is an absolute treasure trove! I recently spent some time exploring, and the retro vibes are just *chef's kiss*. It's not just about seeing old buildings; it's about feeling the history and charm that still radiates from these incredible spots. One place that truly captured my heart was the Eden Roc Miami Beach hotel. You know, the one with that distinct MiMo architecture? Standing there, imagining all the legendary stars like Lucille Ball and Frank Sinatra walking through those doors back in the day, gave me chills! The mid-century charm is so palpable. I found just grabbing a coffee in their lobby or wandering through the common areas gave me such a fantastic sense of its timeless elegance. It’s a truly iconic retro hotel Miami experience, and seeing its unique architecture up close, like in that aerial view I saw, really makes you appreciate its design. Then, of course, there's the famous Art Deco District, especially along Ocean Drive in South Beach. This whole area just bursts with retro Miami colors! I mean, those pastel-colored buildings are straight out of a postcard. It’s not just the buildings themselves; the whole Miami Beach vibe here is so unique. I absolutely loved spotting the classic cars parked outside places like the Avalon Hotel Miami and the Colony Hotel Miami Beach. They really complete that vintage picture, making you feel like you’ve stepped onto a movie set. Speaking of which, for anyone interested in free or low cost public filming locations Miami, the exterior of these buildings on Ocean Drive provides an incredible, unmistakable backdrop. I'd highly recommend visiting early morning when Miami Beach is empty; the soft light makes the colors pop even more, and you can get some amazing, crowd-free photos of the Colony Hotel Miami Beach exterior or the yellow and white Avalon Hotel on Ocean Drive without the bustling crowds. And let's not forget the iconic Miami Beach Lifeguard Towers! These aren't just practical structures; they are pieces of art! Each one is so vibrantly colored and designed in that unmistakable Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern style. From the bright pink and yellow ones to the more subtle hues, they add such a whimsical, retro touch to the beach. They're definitely one of my favorite spots to capture those perfectly retro Miami photos. I saw a picture of a colorful pink and yellow Art Deco lifeguard tower and it perfectly encapsulates the playful spirit of Miami. To really immerse yourself in the retro Miami vibe, I’d suggest more than just looking. Try to find a classic diner for breakfast, or browse some of the vintage shops dotted around the area. Many of these gorgeous beach Art Deco buildings are free to admire from the street, offering endless opportunities for photography and soaking in the atmosphere without spending a fortune. It’s truly an experience that combines history, art, and that undeniable Miami energy. So, if you're seeking some nostalgic charm, Miami's retro gems are waiting for you!
