🔥 Scorched • Jennifer L. Armentrout ⭐️

This book in the second installment in the duology. This book follows Andrea and Tanner whom you may remember from the first book, Frigid. Andrea and Tanner have a tense relationship dynamic in the beginning, they have that enemies to lovers vibe going on.

Off to Seneca Rocks for the week for summer break, Sydney, Kyler, Andrea and Tanner all head out to stay at a beautiful cabin in the woods.

Tanner has started to make things pretty clear on the way up that he may be feeling something a little more than friends, but Sydney believes that he would never go for her, not once he discovere the darker side of her.

As the week progresses and Andrea and Tanner are spending more time together, their feelings for one another grow immensely. Intimate pool/ bedroom scenes. It becomes clear throughout the trip that Andrea has a problem with drinking, but she doesn't think it's "that bad".

As tensions start to rise, Andrea completely falls apart, and Tanner was there to bear witness to it all. She never wanted him to see her like this.

With the trip abruptly cut short, Sydney and Kyler decide it's best that everyone heads home. But what happens after they get home, nobody could see coming.

I really fell in love with these characters and I was really happy that Sydney and Kyler were in this book as well. I wish there were more books to this series.

... Read moreIf you're like me and always on the hunt for the next gripping romance, 'Scorched' by Jennifer L. Armentrout is a must-add to your TBR! After diving into this second installment of her duology, I can honestly say it delivers on all fronts, especially for those who love a good contemporary romance with depth and plenty of heat. One of the biggest questions I see about J.L. Armentrout books is always, 'Is it spicy?' And for 'Scorched,' the answer is a resounding yes! With a 3/5 spice rating, you can expect some truly intimate pool and bedroom scenes that really turn up the tension between Andrea and Tanner. It’s not just about the physical, though; the emotional intensity and passionate connection they build through their forced proximity in that cozy cabin at Seneca Rocks are just as captivating. The way their relationship evolves from that initial enemies-to-lovers spark into something much deeper and more vulnerable is what truly makes it sizzle. Speaking of aesthetics, the cabin setting and the overall vibe of 'Scorched' are just perfect for a rainy day read. Imagine being tucked away in the woods, with all that palpable tension brewing between two characters who are clearly meant to be. The book cover, with its subtle string lights and hearts, really captures that blend of romance and a touch of mystery that permeates the story. The atmosphere created by the secluded Seneca Rocks setting enhances the 'forced proximity' trope beautifully, making it impossible for Andrea and Tanner to ignore their growing feelings. This book also delves into some heavier themes, which I really appreciate in a romance novel. Andrea’s struggles with her drinking problem and panic attacks are handled with sensitivity, and it makes Tanner’s desire to 'save her' all the more poignant. You see glimmers of this journey through themes like therapy and the challenges depicted in the OCR, which show a distressed person or elements like cocktails and a hospital, adding layers to the narrative beyond just the romance. It’s a testament to JLA’s writing that she can weave such complex character arcs into an intensely romantic story. If you enjoyed 'Frigid' or are a fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s other works, especially her more contemporary titles, then 'Scorched' is definitely for you. It showcases her talent for developing fantastic banter, creating undeniable chemistry, and crafting stories where characters face real challenges. The slow burn and angst are perfectly paced, building to an explosive climax that will leave you wanting more of this duology. Don't miss out on this intense, emotionally charged, and wonderfully spicy read!
