I was never one of those people who wondered what happened after we died…but now I know.
I didn’t anticipate it being spent going back to school, but here I am. I don’t remember much of my life, though it’s slowly coming back to me, and I have no idea how I died. What I do know is that it was violently and before my time—aka, I was murdered. That’s the reason I’ve found myself at Scythe Academy in hell, training to become a reaper.
That’s where my focus is meant to be, but I can’t seem to let go of the life I don’t remember. Something inside of me is telling me that I have to remember how I died; that there’s something important about what happened. I keep being told that our lives from before don’t matter anymore, but they’re wrong. My death was about more than just me.
Now, I just have to remember what happened and figure out what I’m supposed to do about it. Should be easy enough, right?
On Death’s Door is the first book in a why-choose paranormal academy romance trilogy and will end on a cliffhanger. Our main female character will not have to choose between her love interests, which will not all be met in the first book, and there is MM within the harem. This book is intended for readers 18+ due to language and content.
... Read moreIf you're fascinated by paranormal romance with unique twists, "On Death’s Door" offers a rich blend of supernatural elements like reaper academies, demons, and the legendary four horsemen. One compelling aspect is the incorporation of a mixed-species polycule, which adds layers of complexity and inclusion to the story.
Having read several paranormal romance novels, I find the "why choose" trope refreshing because it allows characters to explore relationships without the usual love triangle pressure. This book stands out for its mature handling of polyamory and representation of MM (male/male) relationships within the harem, making it a great pick for readers looking for diverse romantic dynamics.
The Scythe Academy setting creates an intriguing backdrop where death is not just an end but a gateway to new challenges and identity. The concept of training as a reaper combines elements of supernatural duty with personal growth and mystery, as the protagonist must piece together her forgotten past and violent murder.
For readers interested in paranormal worlds that incorporate witches, hellhounds, and vampires—as hinted by keywords like "reaper academy," "witches," "hellhound," and "vampire"—this novel delivers a dark yet compelling narrative. Plus, availability on Kindle Unlimited makes it accessible for subscribers wanting to explore fresh paranormal academy stories.
If you enjoy books that meld action, romance, and supernatural intrigue with mature themes and thoughtful representation, "On Death’s Door" is worth checking out. Be ready for a cliffhanger ending, which promises more twists and deepening relationships in the trilogy's subsequent books.
