POV: Your entire personality is choosing finishes

Nobody prepared us for this part of renovation - debating between 50 shades of grey and 100 shades of wood like our lives depended on it.

I’M GONNA MISS THIS MESS 🥹

6/28 Edited to

... Read moreRenovating a home often feels like an emotional rollercoaster, especially when it comes to picking finishes. From personal experience, the decision between subtle shades like the many greys or the warmth of wood tones can feel overwhelming because each choice reflects a part of your style and personality. It helped me to gather physical samples, like paint chips and wood swatches, and view them at different times of the day to see how natural and artificial light affected their look. Also, considering how the finishes would complement existing furniture and decor was essential. I remember debating for hours over finishes labeled with intriguing names like "TE203-0" or finishes such as "DIMOUT Martindale," which added a playful yet stressful layer to the process. Using such specific codes helped me stay organized but sometimes felt like deciphering a new language! One coping mechanism was to embrace the messiness and uncertainty of the selection phase. Instead of rushing, I allowed myself to enjoy the creative process and even documented moments to look back on—the mix of frustration and excitement was part of the journey. In the end, choosing finishes is about balancing aesthetics, function, and emotion. Don’t be afraid to get messy or take your time because these choices will breathe life into your space.
