Hair Journey ✨🚿
My hair journey has been a long & difficult one!
Backstory: I cut my hair when I was in middle school (8th grade) because I wanted to donate it to a good cause! 💕 I cut off about 8 inches of my hair & I have been struggling to grow it back since then…. so sadly, for the last 12 years 😭 Not to mention the time I bleached/fried my hair & the countless sessions it took to get it back to a decent color ✨
2nd picture: My hair in 2017.
• This was sadly the longest my hair would grow after my big chop. I admit, I was not taking the best care of my hair at this age & I definitely didn’t know as much about hair care, as I do now. I use to straighten my hair EVERY SINGLE DAY because I HATED my natural hair. I remember straightening it to the point where the whole household would complain about the house smelling like burnt hair 😷
3rd pic: Is my hair now (2025) ✨
• My hair is now almost back to its original length. 💕 I’m just happy I got it to finally grow past my 🍒’s lol! That has been my goal for so long! I do still straighten my hair, it’s just more rare/special occasions now. I have learned how to love my natural hair a little more, but I do still struggle with finding cute ways to style it (my natural hair is a mix of wavy/curly & a whole lotta frizz)
I also posted some things I’ve found that have helped my hair:
• Moroccanoil Shampoo & Conditioner: 🚿 I like this brand. They also have a variety of shampoos & conditioners that help with different things (color repair, hydration, etc). I have tried a few of them, I’ve just noticed they will dry my hair out after a while. So I do like to switch between this brand & others. Most hairstylists I meet vouch for this brand as well ✨
• Amika Shampoo & Conditioner: 🧼 This set really helped hydrate my hair and make my curls pop!✨ Especially if you pair it with the amika hydration treatment (listed below & on the following slide)
• Amika Hydration Treatment:🧴 I am OBSESSED with this! I swear I saw the most improvement with my hair when I started using this product! 💕 I tend to shower at night before bed, so I’ll take some of this rub it in my hair, leave it while I do my nightly face routine, & brush it out. I then sleep with it until the morning & there’s no need to wash this one out! I’ve also noticed it makes my curls look absolutely gorgeous ✨
• Vitamins: 💊 I take iron and prenatal vitamins/ supplements
• Coconut oil: 🥥 I will do coconut oil hair masks occasionally. I definitely don’t recommend doing these more than 1-2 times a week, it may cause too much oil in your hair, which can make your hair look greasy. But I’ll rub coconut oil all throughout my hair, especially making sure to get the ends since that’s where most of the dryness is for me. I’ll then put my hair up and cover it with a bathing cap and sit around for 30+ mins. (If you feel comfortable sleeping in the mask, please do so.) Make sure to thoroughly rinse your hair whenever you are done with your mask, that way there’s no oil remaining & you don’t get that greasy look! ✨💕
