📍Costa Mujeres | Cancún, Mexico

This was an interesting trip to say the least… a lot happened. It was the first trip with our daughter, and there was no lack of fresh experiences for her and us both. The resort was nice overall and had plenty to do, the food was amazing. The pools were also great! Unfortunately my daughter and I caught HFM midway through the trip which ruined the rest of the experience… and if that didn’t do it, the dog bite certainly did. I don’t think we will be returning there because of the lack of action on the dog bite, but it was an interesting experience. I’m just glad I didn’t pass out in the airport; I thought I was going to 😖

... Read morePlanning a trip to Costa Mujeres, Mexico, especially with family, can be an exciting adventure! After my recent experience, I wanted to share some additional practical insights to help you prepare for your own journey, ensuring you make the most of this beautiful destination while staying safe and healthy. One of the most common questions I hear is, 'Is it safe to travel to Costa Mujeres, Mexico?' Generally, resort areas like Costa Mujeres are considered safe for tourists. These areas are usually well-maintained and have security measures in place. However, it’s always smart to exercise common sense, just like you would in any unfamiliar destination. Stick to well-lit, populated areas, especially if you venture outside your resort. If you plan excursions, book with reputable tour operators. While my trip had its challenges, many visitors have wonderful, incident-free vacations. Always keep an eye on your belongings and be aware of your surroundings. For those traveling with little ones, like I was with my daughter, health precautions are paramount. We encountered Hand, Foot, and Mouth (HFM) disease, which unfortunately cut our fun short. It’s a good reminder to pack a comprehensive first-aid kit with essentials like fever reducers, antiseptic wipes, and any specific medications your family might need. Regular handwashing is a must, and it’s wise to bring hand sanitizer to use throughout the day. Check with your pediatrician about any recommended vaccinations or health advisories before you go. Remember to stay hydrated – especially important for kids – and apply plenty of sunscreen. The sun in Cancun, Mexico, is strong! When it comes to choosing a resort, like the Riu Palace mentioned in my recap, consider what amenities are most important for your family. Great pools, kids' clubs, and diverse dining options can make a huge difference. The food at our resort, for instance, was absolutely fantastic, offering a wide array of choices. From sushi to classic Mexican dishes, there's usually something for everyone. If you’re traveling with a toddler, having a room with a nice balcony can be a lifesaver for quiet time or evening unwinding once they're asleep. While our trip had a very unfortunate incident involving a dog, it’s important to remember that such occurrences are rare. However, being prepared for the unexpected is key. Know your resort's emergency protocols and have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies. If an incident does occur, report it immediately to resort staff and local authorities if necessary. This can help address the issue promptly and ensure documentation. Overall, Costa Mujeres offers stunning beaches and a vibrant atmosphere. Despite our personal setbacks, many aspects of our trip were truly memorable. By taking proactive steps regarding health and safety, choosing a resort that fits your family's needs, and being prepared for anything, you can still have an incredible and enriching travel experience in this beautiful part of Mexico. Don't let one challenging experience deter you from exploring; instead, learn from it to make your next adventure even better.
