This is so true

This is what I have

... Read moreI stumbled upon this incredibly powerful quote today, and it resonated deeply within me: 'Hyper-independence isn't a personality trait—it's a nervous system that learned no one was coming.' Wow. Just reading that made so many things click into place about my own life and the way I've always operated. For so long, I prided myself on being incredibly self-reliant, always handling everything on my own, rarely asking for help. I thought it was a strength, a sign of my resilience. But this quote opened my eyes to a completely different perspective. It's not about being strong or weak; it's about a deep-seated survival mechanism. My nervous system, perhaps from early experiences where I felt unsupported or had to be the adult in the room, essentially wired itself to believe that relying on others was a risk. It learned that if something needed to be done, *I* was the only one who could reliably do it. This isn't just about a preference for working alone; it's a profound, often unconscious, belief that help simply isn't available, or worse, that asking for it will lead to disappointment or abandonment. It's a way of protecting yourself from potential hurt. This 'no independence' isn't a choice I consciously made; it's a protective strategy my body developed. It shows up in so many ways. Do you find yourself saying 'I'm fine' even when you're overwhelmed? Do you struggle with delegating tasks, believing no one can do it as well as you can? Do you feel uncomfortable with vulnerability, always needing to appear strong and capable? These are all hallmarks of hyper-independence. It often leads to burnout, isolation, and a deep sense of loneliness, even when surrounded by people who care. Because if you can't let anyone in, how can they truly connect with you? Recognizing this in myself has been a huge step. It's not about blaming myself for developing this coping mechanism; it's about understanding its roots and acknowledging that it served a purpose at one point. But now, it might be holding me back from deeper connections and a more balanced life. The path forward isn't about suddenly becoming dependent, but about learning to trust again. It's about slowly, gently, re-training that nervous system. For anyone who feels this connection, here are a few thoughts that have helped me: Acknowledge the Root: Understand that this isn't a flaw, but a protective response. Be kind to yourself. Practice Small Asks: Start by asking for small, low-stakes help. Can someone grab you a coffee? Can a friend proofread a quick email? Lean into Discomfort: Feeling vulnerable is hard when your nervous system is wired for self-reliance. Try sharing a small struggle with a trusted friend. Set Boundaries: Paradoxically, hyper-independent people often struggle with boundaries because they take on too much. Learning to say 'no' can be a powerful step towards rebalancing. Seek Support: If this deeply resonates and feels overwhelming, consider talking to a therapist. They can provide tools and strategies to gently rewire these learned responses. It's a journey, not a destination. But understanding that hyper-independence stems from a nervous system response, rather than just a 'personality trait,' makes it feel less like an inherent part of me I can't change, and more like a learned behavior I can slowly, compassionately, unlearn. It's about moving from 'no independence' as a survival tactic to choosing healthy interdependence.

What do you think? If you can’t discipline yourself with low funds how will you when you make more money? Always be in the mindset to live in your means or even lower so you can have a big savings account. Life happens and when that rainy day comes you’ll be happy you have that savings. #m
