Yes I know that technically a water flea is an aquatic crustacean and not a microbe, but I have only just figured out how to attach the bloody camera to the microscope and filming down the lens on my phone was difficult. So you’ll have to make do with him for now. #science #microbiology #wo

Replying to @Schtefff 🇨🇦 I’m not trying to vilify anyone who wrote this in the comments because I totally get where you’re all coming from. But… it’s not really that simple. And it is really sad. The festering pustules who are pushing this info on to vulnerable people should be held to account.

Imagine letting other people choose your future. Ew. Your vote matters! Because election margins can be ridiculously small, but the consequences can last for forever. Get enrolled. Read the policies. Ignore the bollocks headlines and BS name-calling. And vote. And don’t forget to head to

Some random facts

There’s a few more of you here this last few days. And I could tell you actually relevant things like how I’m working on businesses that have much less negative impact on people and planet, but my favourite things are random facts. So here are a bunch of them. Don’t forget to enrol to vote b

Wildlife in Borneo

Last week I was in Borneo with the WWF to see their conservation work and it was just freaking incredible. I also practised my wildlife photography, which is fairly middling, but I’m pretty pleased with these photos. Though I will say I whittled more than 6000 down to ~250. Not a great ratio. #

Science literacy is so important. Otherwise you end up like this guy. And sure, he may be smiling now, but I’ve heard it’s way harder when your jaw rots and falls off (which is actually a thing that radium does). #science #literacy #radiation

So how’s your day been? I’m in Borneo on an expedition the WWF and if it wasn’t for Dora and all the other animals I’m not sure I’d come home. #wildlife #borneo #elephant

No it’s not your fault as an individual that we’re in the midst of a climate crisis (altho to be clear, this is only the beginning), but individual actions do make a difference! Plus this one saves a stupid amount of money, so well worth it. #climatechange #savetheplanet

I know in light of all the other BS going on this rejigging of our science and research world might not seem like a big deal, but it very much is. The government has made some big changes (some are definitely fair) in the pursuit of economic growth and productivity. And it will almost certainly d

The news at the moment is just super fun, with the wars and the wildfires, the parasitic tech bros and their latest fun invention, the politicians who just blatantly lie and call each other (and us) names, and the fact that everyone seems to be talking about climate change or attending nature confe

Sarge is not only still running around like a lunatic, he’s apparently now cancer-free 🎉 This wasn’t supposed to have a happy ending - treating him was not expected to make much of a difference. He had a type of cancer the vets hadn’t seen before in NZ and they weren’t sure how long he had left

In light of the (unsurprising) news that NZ has its first case of H5N1 (bird flu) I thought this was an appropriate video to repost. Go and have a look at any of the news articles about it today and the comment section does make you question whether we should all get a vote. Anywho, I have a

Unfortunately my default is sarcasm and dark humour, but the information is solid. I read a bunch of different analyses across the board as well as much of the bill (dear god they’re dry), to truly understand the changes from what we have now. I suggest you do the same. Loads of organisation

My top five nightmares

Is it even possible to be interested in something for that long? I have written a plan for my apocalypse book though. Maybe one day I’ll write it. Doubtful. #adhd #phd

The world doesn’t have to suck you know.

I’ve been called naive, unrealistic, unreasonable (that’s my fave), stupid, woke, and a communist (by people who don’t know what the word means). And that was probably just last week. And it’s usually for suggesting crazy ideas like people should be paid a living wage, companies should pay for t

I was going to craft a caption with loads of stats and studies on how successful women-founded businesses are, and what a missed opportunity this is. And then I realised people won’t read it and will instead just talk about sandwiches. But yeah. This is bonkers 🙃 #womeninbusiness #founder

This is a video from last year but it’s but this has cropped back up in the news lately as tick season in the USA begins. To add: the Lone Star tick isn’t the only one who can spread this syndrome… Cases have been reported pretty widely through most parts of the world, including Australia and A

A day in the life of a founder with ADHD

Someone told me the other day that finding out I had ADHD but still managed to run a business made her feel better. So… here we are 💁🏻‍♀️ I’m a little bit awkward about talking about it but hey if it’s useful. Late diagnosed like how many other women you probably know, even though it couldn’t h

Is this what Gen Z’s would say is walking into the point? If people need government assistance to survive, yet they are in paid work, the government (that’s public money, from taxes) is subsidising that business. #livingwage #ethicalbusiness

Another day, a new wellness guru appears. But how can you tell if they’re giving you useful information or if they’re just spreading nonsense to scare you? There’s others of course - like claims should come with sources not just ‘trust me bro’, and speaking in absolutes with no nuance. I saw t
