หลายคนสับสนเรื่อง was/were เพราะมันคือ “to be” ช่องอดีต (past simple) ที่ใช้บอกว่า “เป็น/อยู่/คือ” ในอดีตค่ะ เลยขอสรุปแบบใช้ได้จริง พร้อมทริคกันลืม และเชื่อมกับ is/am/are ให้เห็นภาพชัดๆ 1) Was/Were ใช้กับอะไร? - was ใช้กับประธานเอกพจน์: I, he, she, it ตัวอย่าง: She was tired. (เธอเหนื่อย) - were ใช้กับประธานพหูพจน์: we, they และ “you” ตัวอย่าง: They were at the park. (พวกเขาอยู่ที่สวน) 2) แล้ว “you” ใช้ was หรือ were? คำตอบคือ “you + were” เกือบทุกกรณี (ทั้ง you คนเดียวและหลายคน) เช่น - You were late yesterday. (เมื่อวานคุณมาสาย) - Were you at the park? (เมื่อวานคุณอยู่ที่สวนไหม?) 3) คำถามที่เจอบ่อย: is/are/was/were ใช้ยังไงให้ไม่งง ให้คิดเป็น “ปัจจุบัน vs อดีต” ก่อน แล้วค่อยเลือกตามประธาน - ปัจจุบัน: I am, he/she/it is, you/we/they are - อดีต: I/he/she/it was, you/we/they were เท่านี้จะสลับได้ถูกเวลาเล่าเรื่องเมื่อวาน/สัปดาห์ที่แล้ว 4) Was/Were ในประโยคคำถามและปฏิเสธ - คำถาม: Was/Were + ประธาน + ...? ตัวอย่าง: Was he at school? / Were they happy? - ปฏิเสธ: ประธาน + was/were + not + ... ตัวอย่าง: I was not (wasn’t) at home. / We were not (weren’t) ready. 5) Mini tip จำง่ายแบบเร็วมาก - “Was = คนเดียว” (ยกเว้น you) - “Were = หลายคน + you” ลองนึกภาพสถานการณ์ง่ายๆ เช่น “เด็กผู้หญิงเหนื่อย” = She was tired. แต่ “เด็กนักเรียนวิ่งหลายคน” = They were running. ถ้าอยากฝึกไวๆ แนะนำแต่ง 5 ประโยคเกี่ยวกับเมื่อวาน (yesterday) เช่น อยู่ที่สวนสาธารณะ/เหนื่อย/ดีใจ แล้วสลับประธาน I, she, you, we, they จะจำ was/were แม่นขึ้นมากค่ะ
