Sturgeon Moon: Abundance, Strength & Release 🌕
The Sturgeon Moon is the traditional name for August’s full moon in the Northern Hemisphere.
📅 Sturgeon Moon in 2025
• Peak Illumination: Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 3:55 a.m. ET.
• Appears full for about three nights; August 8, 9, and 10, making for a rare double moonrise viewing opportunity.
• This 2025 Sturgeon Moon will also be in the sign of Aquarius astrologically.
🌕 Name Origins
• The name comes from Algonquin and other Native American traditions, as well as early European settlers.
• It refers to the abundance of sturgeon fish found in the Great Lakes and other large bodies of water during late summer.
• Different cultures had their own names for August’s moon, the Dakota called it the Moon When All Things Ripen, and the Cree sometimes called it the Flying Up Moon (for young birds learning to fly).
✨ Spiritual & Symbolic Meaning
• Bounty & Abundance – a time to harvest the fruits of your labor, both physical and spiritual.
• Strength & Endurance – just as sturgeon are ancient, resilient fish, this moon reminds us of persistence.
• Release & Renewal – full moons are often used for letting go of what no longer serves you before moving into a new cycle.
