As a fellow ACOTAR enthusiast, I've spent countless hours pondering the intricate, often tumultuous, relationship between Tamlin and Feyre. The early days at the Spring Court painted a picture that many of us, myself included, might have initially seen as Tamlin & Feyre living their best life. The romance felt epic, almost fairytale-like, especially with that iconic line, "There you are. I've been looking for you." It was a moment that promised so much, a declaration of a deep, almost fated connection. But as the story unfolded, much like many readers, I found myself constantly questioning: does Tamlin truly love Feyre? It’s a question that sparks endless debate in the ACOTAR fandom, and for good reason. On one hand, his initial actions – sacrificing himself for her, bringing her back to the Spring Court, and enduring the horrors Under the Mountain alongside her – certainly seem to suggest a profound love. He protected her, cared for her, and even fought for her freedom when she was a captive. Those gestures felt, at the time, like unwavering devotion. However, the aftermath of their time Under the Mountain was where the cracks in their seemingly perfect bond truly began to show. His protectiveness morphed into suffocating possessiveness, his care into control. I remember feeling so frustrated watching him lock Feyre away, trying to shield her from the world, but in doing so, stripping her of her agency and her very spirit. Was this still love? Or was it a distorted form of it, born from his own trauma and fear of losing her again? For me, true love involves respecting the other person's freedom and growth, even if it means stepping back. Many argue that Tamlin's actions, particularly his betrayal later on, unequivocally prove that his feelings were never genuine love, but rather obsession or a desire to control. Yet, I also believe it's important to consider his own past and the trauma he experienced. Sometimes, people exhibit toxic behaviors not because they don't love, but because their love is tainted by their own unresolved issues and coping mechanisms. His inability to cope with Feyre's trauma, and his desperate attempts to revert her to the person he knew before Amarantha, spoke volumes about his own brokenness. So, does Tamlin love Feyre? My personal take is complex. I think he did, in his own deeply flawed and ultimately destructive way. He loved the idea of Feyre, the one who would stay safe and happy by his side, rather than the resilient, powerful woman she became. His love was possessive, fearful, and ultimately unable to adapt to the true strength and independence Feyre needed and deserved. Their story is a tragic reminder that love, without trust, respect, and freedom, can quickly become a gilded cage, no matter how beautiful the initial intention.
