Life doesn’t stop, even when your hearts breaking

For the past week, I’ve felt overwhelmed with sadness, irritability, and deep depression. I’ve been fighting a battle inside my head — the kind that leaves you feeling disconnected and numb. The hardest part? Life keeps going. I don’t have the luxury of giving up. I have two beautiful kids who depend on me to be strong, even when I feel anything but.

Depression doesn’t just go away because you have responsibilities. It pulls you under even when you’re fighting to stay above water. But one thing I’ve learned is this:

I don’t have to conquer the whole ocean today. I just need to keep swimming — one small stroke at a time.

I’m sharing this because I know I’m not alone. If you’re struggling too, I see you. I hear you. And I hope you keep moving forward with me.

Even the darkest nights will end, and the sun will rise again. Let’s keep chasing the light together.

... Read moreIt’s a feeling many of us know all too well, isn't it? That deep, heavy sensation of being truly feeling broken, like shattered pieces that just won't fit back together. When you're in that place, it feels impossible to imagine ever feeling whole again, especially when the world keeps spinning and demands keep piling up. I’ve been there, staring up at the ceiling, wondering how I’m going to make it through another day, and I want to tell you: you are not failing. You are surviving, and that’s a monumental achievement in itself. When I talk about taking 'one small stroke at a time,' what does that actually look like on those impossibly hard days? For me, it’s often about stripping everything back to basics. Sometimes, a 'small stroke' is simply getting out of bed, or taking a shower even when every fiber of my being wants to stay under the covers. It might be stepping outside for just five minutes to feel the sun on my face, or making myself a cup of tea and just sitting with it. These tiny acts of self-care aren't going to magically fix everything, but they're proof that you're still engaging, still trying, still seeking hope even in the mistiest of times. If you're a parent, like me, the pressure to 'keep it together' is immense. When I'm feeling broken, the guilt can be crushing. What helps me sometimes is to remember that perfection isn't the goal. My kids need a present parent, not a perfect one. On difficult days, that might mean extra screen time, or a simpler meal, or just cuddling on the couch. It means being honest (in an age-appropriate way) that mommy is having a hard day, and it's okay for them to see me vulnerable. It’s also about reaching out for help—whether it’s asking a friend to watch the kids for an hour, or leaning on my partner. We don't have to carry this burden alone. Another thing that's been a lifeline for me is finding moments for quiet contemplation. Sometimes, it’s just sitting by the window, watching the clouds, and allowing myself to feel whatever comes up without judgment. Other times, it’s focusing on my breath, just a few deep inhales and exhales. It’s about creating a tiny space where you can acknowledge your feelings without letting them consume you entirely, always remembering that even in the darkest corners, there is often a faint light source to guide us. Please remember, it's okay to not be okay. Feeling broken is a valid human experience, and healing isn't linear. There will be good days and bad days. The goal isn't to never feel broken again, but to learn how to navigate those times with more compassion for yourself. Keep taking those small strokes. Keep seeking hope. Keep moving forward, even if it's just a shuffle. You’re stronger than you think, and the sun will rise again. We're in this together.
