How to Frame Jobhopping in Marketing as a Strength
A lot of people ask me how to explain job hopping on their resume within marketing.
I am a strong believer that job hopping is the way of the future, so if you’ve changed jobs a lot, DO NOT apologize for it. There’s always a way to frame it as intentional. Each move gave you new skills, challenges, experiences with different coworkers and leadership styles.
That’s growth no matter what.
Here’s what I say during interviews:
- Highlight a specific skill you gained in each role, e.g., “I built cross-functional communication skills managing three different teams in under two years.”
- Emphasize your adaptability: “I quickly learned new industries and tools, which allows me to hit the ground running.”
- Position each move as purposeful/intentional: “I sought roles that offered new challenges and opportunities for growth.”
- And MOST IMPORTANTLY… tie it to ambition: “Each career move was about taking on bigger problems and more responsibility.”
