We thought we were heading to Finland just to “see the Northern Lights" but Northern Lights Village turned out to feel like stepping into a real-life snow globe.
From learning how to capture the aurora with both phone and camera settings, to chasing the lights across the Arctic sky during aurora hunting, every night felt unreal. And somehow, the best moments happened when we least expected it — spotting the aurora dancing right through the glass roof and we ran out again to take photos!
Meanwhile, the days were equally unforgettable. We went cross-country skiing through endless white landscapes, husky sledding across snowy trails, snowmobiling to ice fishing spots in the middle of frozen lakes, baking gingerbread cookies, and even meeting Santa at his home like little kids again!
Sometimes we forget how magical the world can feel when we slow down and experience something completely different from our daily routine. Finland reminded us that adventure doesn’t always have to be loud. Sometimes it’s quiet skies, snowy forests, and green lights dancing above us.
... Read moreChasing the Northern Lights in Finland’s Northern Lights Village is truly a unique experience. One thing I found incredibly helpful was learning the best camera and phone settings to capture the aurora borealis—using long exposure and adjusting ISO can make a huge difference in freezing those magical moments. Also, staying in accommodations with glass roofs allowed for surprise sightings right from bed, making it possible to admire the lights even during moments of rest.
Beyond the aurora hunts, I highly recommend exploring daytime activities that showcase the stunning Arctic landscape. Cross-country skiing across the crisp white terrain felt like gliding through a winter postcard. Husky sledding was another exhilarating adventure—the sheer energy and enthusiasm of the huskies made the journey unforgettable. Ice fishing on frozen lakes with a snowmobile ride added to the authentic Finnish winter vibe, and baking gingerbread cookies created cozy memories indoors.
Meeting Santa Claus at his home in Lapland reignited the childlike wonder in me—it’s not just for kids but for anyone who enjoys festive magic. This trip reminded me how slowing down and immersing in such serene surroundings can make you appreciate the quiet beauty of nature. The calm snowy forests under the shimmering green northern lights made every moment feel like a fairytale come to life. For anyone planning a visit, be sure to dress warmly and bring layers to fully enjoy both the outdoor activities and the nightly aurora displays.
