Our recent Thanksgiving trip to Memphis was truly unforgettable, and the absolute highlight was our visit to the Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid! From the moment we saw the massive, gleaming pyramid-shaped building rising against the skyline, we knew this wasn't just any shopping trip – it was an experience. The drive, though long, was absolutely worth it for this unique destination. Stepping inside, it immediately felt like entering a different world, a true Sportsman's Paradise right in the heart of Memphis, TN. The sheer scale of the place is breathtaking. You're greeted by towering cypress trees, an indoor swamp with live alligators and fish, and even an enormous aquarium. It’s hard to believe such an incredible ecosystem exists indoors! We spent hours just wandering around, marveling at the intricate displays of hunting and fishing gear, boats, and even a Ducks Unlimited Waterfowling Heritage Center. There’s so much more than just retail here; it’s an immersive adventure for outdoor enthusiasts and curious travelers alike. The attention to detail in creating this indoor wilderness is astounding. One of the absolute must-do's is taking the world's tallest freestanding elevator up to The Lookout at the Pyramid. This is where we found that 'cool restaurant' mentioned in our initial post. The views from The Lookout Bass Pro are simply spectacular. You get a panoramic vista of the Mississippi River, the Memphis skyline, and even the elevated highway leading into the city. Dining up there, especially as the sun sets, is an experience in itself. The food was delicious, offering a great selection, but honestly, the scenery was the main course! It's a fantastic spot for a memorable meal or just to grab a drink and soak in the incredible atmosphere, making it a perfect end to a day of exploration. Allow yourself plenty of time – seriously, at least half a day, if not more, to explore everything. Wear comfortable shoes because you'll be doing a lot of walking. While we went during Thanksgiving, which meant it was a bit busy, the festive atmosphere added to the charm. Weekdays might be less crowded if you prefer a quieter visit. Don't forget to check out the 13-lane bowling alley, the 100-room Big Cypress Lodge hotel (a wilderness-themed hotel right inside!), and the unique archery and shooting ranges. It’s not just a store; it’s an entertainment complex that caters to families, outdoor enthusiasts, and anyone looking for something truly out of the ordinary.
