With the impending snow to hit the east coast, stock up on these items to make some cozy soups this weekend!
Prices based on my local Wal-Mart in Southwest Virginia.
All meals are priced with gluten free items - meals will work with regular items also making total prices lower
I don't count basic essentials like eggs, milk, spice towards total price.
Nashville Hot Chicken Chili - add chicken, broth, drained pinto beans, tomatoes, and 1/2 to whole packet of seasoning (depending on desired heat) to a pot over medium/high heat. If broth isn't enough, cover rest with water (no more than another can). Simmer for 10-15 minutes. Serve topped with cheese and Greek yogurt (or sour cream). Also, great with pickles and corn chips on top/the side.
Servings 4-6
Brunswick Stew - add pork, drained beans, corn, and potatoes, tomatoes, and broth. Add onion powder and worcestershire sauce to taste. Let simmer 10-15 minutes. Add hot sauce to serve, if desired.
Servings 3-5
Beefy French Onion Soup - Mix beef and soup together and heat. Serve with cheese on top.

Using WalMart ingredients to create comforting meals under $15 is a smart way to save money without sacrificing flavor or convenience. I've found that stocking up on versatile pantry staples and proteins like rotisserie chicken, canned beans, diced tomatoes, and broth makes it easy to whip up nourishing soups quickly.
For the Nashville Hot Chicken Chili, I like to use the pre-seasoned Nashville Hot Wing Seasoning Mix to achieve that perfect spicy kick. Adding pinto beans and diced tomatoes rounds out the chili with extra fiber and nutrients, making it filling for the whole family. Topping it with shredded cheese and a dollop of Greek yogurt adds creamy richness that balances the heat.
Brunswick Stew is another favorite, packed with pork, corn, potatoes, and beans. I find that a splash of Worcestershire sauce and a pinch of onion powder truly elevates the flavor, creating a comforting stew with just a few pantry staples. For an extra touch, a dash of hot sauce at serving adds exciting warmth on cold days.
For those who love French Onion Soup but want a quick version, combining beef deli-style tips with French onion soup from WalMart’s soup aisle is a game-changer. Heating together and topping with shredded cheese makes a satisfying meal with minimal prep.
One tip from my own experience is to check the prices and labels at your local WalMart since items like gluten-free products might vary in availability and cost. Also, basics like eggs, milk, and spices usually don't count toward the meal price and can help enhance these easy recipes.
These soups prove that you don’t need to spend a lot to enjoy warm, comforting meals during winter. With simple ingredients and minimal cooking time, you can have nourishing, budget-friendly dinners that bring family and friends together around the table.
