When you’re married to a photographer and don’t like your staff headshot… you set up your own shoot—with your service dog—and hang it on the wall like it’s official! 😂📸🐾
But on a serious note—I’m incredibly thankful for an employer and coworkers who not only put up with my quirks but genuinely embrace me and my service dog. It’s something I don’t take lightly. Their support has been a blessing in ways I can’t fully express.
I’ve been in spaces that claimed to value diversity and inclusion… until I mentioned my service dog. I’ve gone through entire hiring processes—interviews, paperwork, even offers—only to suddenly be “passed over” once my accommodation needs were disclosed. That kind of quiet discrimination is real, and it hurts.
Sometimes the very systems designed to help people are the ones doing the most harm. I’ve met so many with visible and invisible disabilities who face rejection despite what the law promises.
I don’t have all the answers, but I do have a prayer: that one day I’ll be in a position to give someone else a chance—to say “yes” when the world says “no,” and to see their ability, not their limitations.
