How to be an Artist

1.) Make Art

... Read moreSo, you're asking, "how to become an artist"? For the longest time, I felt like an imposter, just dabbling. It's more than just saying '1.) Make Art,' though that's definitely the crucial first step! My journey really began when I shifted my mindset and committed to a few key practices that I want to share with you. First, just *start*. Don't wait for inspiration, the perfect studio, or expensive supplies. Grab whatever materials you have – a pencil and paper, your phone camera, some clay, anything. My first serious pieces were far from masterpieces, but they were *mine*, and they taught me so much. The most important thing about how to start being an artist is simply to begin, no matter how small. Next, embrace continuous learning. I used to think artists just had talent, but I've realized it's a skill developed over time, just like any other. I've personally found online courses incredibly helpful for building foundational skills. For instance, if you're into figure drawing or digital sculpting, diving into a specific 'Udemy – head anatomy and sculpting exercises course' could be a game-changer! Learning specific techniques dramatically improved my confidence and abilities. Don't be afraid to invest in yourself and explore resources out there for 'how to become an artist' that go beyond just intuition. There's a whole world of knowledge waiting for you. Another huge step for me was finding my voice. It's not about copying others, but letting your unique perspective shine through. Experiment with different mediums, styles, and subjects. What truly excites you? What stories do you want to tell? This exploration is key to understanding 'how to be an artist' authentically, allowing your true self to emerge in your creations. Consistency is your best friend. Even 15 minutes a day is better than waiting for a huge block of time that might never come. Treat your art like a practice, not just a performance. There will be days you feel uninspired, or your work just isn't 'working out,' but pushing through those moments is where real growth happens. It's all part of the process of 'how to become a artist' – embracing the good days and the challenging ones. Finally, don't be afraid to share your work, even if it's just with a trusted friend or an online community. Getting feedback, and even just seeing your work through others' eyes, can be incredibly motivating and provide new perspectives. It's a vulnerable step, but it's vital for growth. Remember, every master was once a beginner. Your journey to becoming an artist is unique and wonderfully yours – embrace every step!
