Breastmilk Storage

... Read moreProper breastmilk storage is crucial for maintaining its nutritional value and protecting babies from potential contamination. Freshly expressed breastmilk can be safely stored at room temperature for up to 4 hours but should then be refrigerated to remain good for up to 4 days. If you plan to freeze breastmilk, do so before the fourth day to preserve its quality—milk can be kept in a regular freezer for 6 months or in a deep freezer for up to 12 months. When thawing frozen breastmilk, always do so in the refrigerator and use it within 24 hours once fully thawed. Alternatively, warm the milk gently in warm water and ensure it is consumed within 2 hours after warming. It is very important never to thaw breastmilk at room temperature or to refreeze milk that has already been thawed, as these practices increase the risk of bacterial growth and spoilage. Additionally, if a baby has partially fed from a bottle, the remaining milk should not be reused to avoid contamination. Following these guidelines helps keep your breastmilk safe and nutritious, supporting your baby's health and growth. Incorporating proper storage etiquettes and understanding timing for each step can make breastfeeding and pumping a smoother, worry-free experience.
