Embarking on a 1 WEEK IN FRANCE adventure, especially on a budget, requires some smart planning, but it's absolutely doable! Beyond the initial two days of my ITINERARY, I discovered so many hacks to keep costs down while still enjoying the magic of Paris and its surroundings. Here are some of my personal tips and how I spent the rest of my budget-friendly week. First, let's talk about food when you're on a budget. Eating out every meal, especially in popular areas, can quickly deplete your funds. My secret weapon was the local supermarket and boulangerie. I’d grab fresh baguettes, cheese, ham, and fruit for delicious and incredibly cheap picnics by the Seine or in one of Paris's stunning parks like the Luxembourg Gardens. For dinner, I sought out bistros slightly off the main tourist paths or looked for ‘formule’ (set menu) lunches, which offer excellent value. The falafel stands in the Marais district were also a lifesaver for a quick, tasty, and affordable meal. This approach made my 1 WEEK IN FRANCE trip much more manageable financially. Accommodation is another big one. While staying right next to the Eiffel Tower sounds dreamy, it's not very on a budget. I found great success looking for Airbnbs or hostels in well-connected neighborhoods just a few metro stops away from the main attractions. The metro system itself is fantastic; investing in a weekly Navigo Découverte pass (if you're arriving early in the week) saved me a fortune on transport and made navigating the city incredibly easy. Walking, of course, is free and the best way to truly soak in the Parisian atmosphere! Now, for extending the ITINERARY beyond Day 2: Day 3: Parisian Hidden Gems & Culture. Instead of rushing through more major museums, I dedicated this day to exploring specific neighborhoods. I loved wandering through Le Marais, with its historic buildings, charming boutiques (perfect for window shopping!), and the beautiful Place des Vosges. I also took time to simply stroll along the Seine, enjoying the street performers and the booksellers (bouquinistes). In the afternoon, I visited a smaller, less crowded museum or gallery that fit my interests, often one with a free or reduced-rate day. Day 4: Beyond Paris – A Different Day Trip. While Versailles is spectacular, I wanted to see another side of France. I took a train to Giverny to explore Monet's gardens (check seasonal opening for this one!). It was a picturesque escape and offered a lovely contrast to the grandeur of Versailles. Other options, depending on your interests and budget, could include Chantilly or even Reims for a taste of Champagne country (though a tour might push the budget). Days 5-7: Revisit, Relax & Reflect. The remaining days were all about revisiting favorite spots, discovering new ones, and simply enjoying the Parisian lifestyle. I revisited Montmartre to see the Sacré-Cœur Basilica and enjoy the panoramic views, perhaps grabbing a crêpe from a street vendor. I spent an afternoon people-watching at a café with an inexpensive coffee, soaking in the ambiance. I also made sure to find local markets for unique souvenirs, avoiding the overpriced tourist shops. This entire ITINERARY, from start to finish, was meticulously planned to be on a budget, proving that you don't need a fortune to experience the beauty and culture of France. It was an unforgettable 1 WEEK IN FRANCE that showed me how to travel smarter, not harder.
