4 healthy grocery shopping tips🥑🍓🛒

over the last 15 months I’ve transformed my health/fitness, and lost over 25 pounds 🤍

here are 4 simple tips for healthy grocery shopping that have been really helpful for me throughout my fitness journey!

📝 make a plan— every week I pick out a few meals I’m going to eat and make a grocery list for exactly what I need. this is a simple tip, but it really helps me to prioritize healthy foods and only get what I need, to reduce food waste! when I have a list to stick to, I have a lot better odds of getting foods that are aligned with my health goals.

😋 don’t go shopping while hungry— when I go to the grocery store starving, it’s a lot harder to make healthy choices. I like to make sure that ideally I’ve eaten a high protein meal beforehand (or at the very least I’ll grab a snack on my way out the door) so I feel full/satisfied and can make the best possible choices!

🫶🏼 once a week willpower— I’ve found that if I keep healthy food options in the house, then I just eat healthy foods. this means that I really only need to have “willpower” to make healthy choices once a week when I’m shopping. it sounds simple because it is! I always tell myself I can go out and grab treats whenever I want, but I’m usually too lazy and just end up eating whatever I have on hand, so it actually works in my favor.

🍫always get a treat— this may sound counterintuitive, but I find that restricting and putting foods entirely off limits makes them MORE enticing and harder to resist. instead, I like to get a treat at the grocery store every week. since I track calories for weight loss, I’m able to incorporate “unhealthy” foods in moderation and know exactly how much I can have while still reaching my goals. limiting myself to one thing (or honestly, sometimes a couple of things) helps me to stay on track, while also feeling balanced!

... Read moreGrocery shopping for healthful foods can seem daunting, but it’s all about making informed choices. Start by understanding your dietary needs, which vary for everyone based on goals such as weight loss or muscle gain. Include fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains in your shopping list. Explore seasonal produce to get the best flavors and nutrients, as they’re often cheaper and fresher. Don't shy away from trying new ingredients or recipes to keep your meals exciting. Engaging with food communities online can provide inspiration and tips, helping you discover healthier alternatives to your favorites. Remember to always check labels for hidden sugars, unhealthy fats, and sodium in processed foods. Opt for items with fewer ingredients as a general rule, and learn how to decode food labels to make the healthiest choice possible. Also, consider meal prepping or preparing snacks in advance, so healthy options are readily available, reducing the temptation of unhealthy choices during busy times. By consciously choosing and being aware of what goes into your cart, you’re taking vital steps toward a balanced and nutritious lifestyle!
