We have Hmart at home ☺️❤️

My parents started out gardening one or two crops and now we have a lot of home grown organic ingredients at home!!! Weee doesn’t deliver to them and hmart is hours away so this is how they started but now my dad is in love with farming / gardening :) every time I’m home it’s such a beautiful experience!! We’re all from Seoul and grew up in the city so we never had this before !!

... Read moreIt's true, many of us wonder, 'Does H Mart have organic produce?' And while H Mart does offer a selection of organic items, finding truly fresh, pesticide-free, and specifically Korean organic vegetables can sometimes be a challenge, especially if you're not living near a large branch like the one in Troy, Michigan. My own family's journey into gardening started precisely because H Mart wasn't easily accessible for us, and the desire for authentic, fresh ingredients was strong. One of the highlights of our 'home H Mart' is undoubtedly our baechu cabbage. There’s nothing quite like harvesting baechu that’s just bursting with life, perfectly 'blossoming like a flower' as my dad says, ready to be turned into a delicious batch of kimchi. While H Mart often carries baechu, the freshness of a head picked straight from your garden is unparalleled. If you're hoping to make authentic kimchi, starting with the freshest baechu makes all the difference. We've even learned little tricks, like how to properly cut the stem for the best harvest! Beyond baechu, we've found immense joy in cultivating other staples. Our Korean radish, or 'mu', is always a star, especially during our winter harvest. It's incredibly sweet and tender, perfect for a warming dried fish soup, or simply enjoyed on its own. The difference in taste compared to store-bought is remarkable. And speaking of unique finds, have you ever tried growing your own mushrooms? My dad even built a little mushroom shack, and the mushrooms we get are incredible, often ending up in our galbi tteokbokki. Another fascinating crop we've ventured into is perilla seed pods. We all know and love perilla leaves, but harvesting the seeds is a whole different experience. It's a bit of a labor of love to shake those tiny 'perilla seeds' out, but having fresh perilla seed powder is a game-changer. As the OCR noted, good quality, unoxidized perilla seed powder can be practically impossible to find, even at specialty stores. We freeze ours and toast it fresh as needed for soups, and the aroma is simply divine. This level of freshness and quality is something you just can't replicate unless you grow it yourself. So, if you're like us, living a bit further from your nearest H Mart or simply craving the absolute freshest organic Korean ingredients, don't be afraid to try your hand at gardening. Even a small plot can yield wonders. We've certainly had our ups and downs – our sweet potato harvest wasn't great this year, for example – but the rewards of fresh, organic produce chosen by you are truly priceless. It's a personal journey that brings so much more to the table than just food; it brings connection to our roots and a deeper appreciation for what we eat.
