My struggles as an autistic & ADHD content creator
As my social media accounts continue to grow, I am becoming acutely aware of just how hard it is to be perceived and judged by the general public. The more mean comments I get, the more I start to question my value and worth as a creator.
At the core of my being, I know why I do this: For visibility. So folks don’t feel so alone. Maybe the next generation might have more access to information, leading to diagnosis and support.
But it doesn’t change the fact that I am still human, and I am still very much affected by being thrown into the spotlight. Two things can be true: I can want to be a creator, spread information and relatable laughs… And at the same time, I can be nervous to be front and center. It doesn’t have to just be one or the other.

Many creators face unique hurdles, particularly those who are neurodivergent. Being autistic and having ADHD can intensify feelings of self-doubt and imposter syndrome when navigating online platforms. It's essential to acknowledge these feelings and understand that they are experienced by many in the creator community. Visibility on social media is both a privilege and a challenge. Autistic individuals, especially, may find it hard to communicate their thoughts effectively, leading to additional anxiety. For those brave enough to share their journey, the impact they can have on others is significant—offering a sense of belonging to those who feel siloed. Moreover, the dialogue around ADHD and autism has been shifting, with more recognition of the strengths neurodivergent individuals bring to creative spaces. This has led to increased representation and the opportunity for greater understanding. It’s crucial for creators to share their stories, ensuring the next generation has better access to resources and acceptance. Engaging with hashtags like #actuallyautistic, #contentcreator, and #neurodivergent can help build a supportive community. Finding ways to balance personal vulnerability with public exposure can be daunting, but it can lead to growth and understanding for both the creator and their audience. Stories of shared experiences not only validate these feelings but also empower others to embrace their identity and navigate their journeys with confidence. Just remember: you are not alone.

Omg! This girl actually made a negative comment about me being different in real life once cause she just didn't understand this. Smh.
